[OLD] Statistics Forum FAQ

While the "Facts and Formulae Archive" at http://strategy.diabloii.net/news.php?id=551 is an excellent start, it doesn't quite cover everything "statistical" about D2 - for example, some of the recent discussions about odds for unique items, ilvls of quest rewards, and monster animation frames.


Has there been any thought to getting a stickied FAQ in this forum? There are many useful resources scattered across many different places (even on diabloii.net and forums there is sometimes a missed chance at cohesion).


I personally would find it useful to have a FAQ covering stats/"facts and formulae" for each version of the game.

A statistics FAQ will be enormous. If you are willing to collect everything then I'll help you out. Otherwise, It'd be a waste of time. The amount of info on even a small bit of D2 is big.

I definitely agree that the amount of potential info is vast. A lot of it is posted in "other places" but not necessarily organized. I've been wondering what the best way to reference them would be in light of the rules here.


As for the actual organization, I have the idea of "What we know, and How we know it" in terms of, for example, a table of FHR breakpoints and then the exact formula for it and where that formula came from in the game code or otherwise; also thinking in terms of "help others help themselves".


Then have the info broken down by patch version and classic/expansion.


Another section could be for countering misinformation listed on common reference sites (Arreat Summit, d2data, etc).


I'm willing to help collect info as best I can (no need to reinvent any wheels if there is already an accurate source). :thumbsup:

Copy the info with name credit.

For breakpoint tables you don't have to give the formula behind it, as there aren't that many people interested in that. Those that do, tend to search for such info themselves.


Then have the info broken down by patch version and classic/expansion.
I suggest you make a (long) list of all subjects in Diablo 2 and then go search, then I'll go and see what I have.

Another section could be for countering misinformation listed on common reference sites (Arreat Summit, d2data, etc).
That would become the biggest section. Better ignore those.

Very very nice list, and the idea of having an "index type faq" is just as nice.

As an idea, I'd like to have "Bugs" as an index entry, linked to all pages/entries which contain the words "bug" and "bugs", and maybe a list of "features" too, as some "bugs" are "features" and some "features" are "bugs", depending mostly on who you ask...

Chill duration is halved in NM and quarted in hell, then the monster's cold resistance lowers/increases this.

I'll have to ask the webmasters here but it seems the very bottom section is somewhat unlinked due to too many abbreviated links. Apparently vBulletin either has a hard-coded limit or the webmaster needs to set a higher limit for such links.

If a link is too long it gets abbreviated in the listing, using an ellipsis to connect the beginning and end of the link, however if there are too many abbreviated links whatever space is used to store the actual links runs out and the link works exactly how it's displayed, with the ellipsis.

I personally would find it useful to have a FAQ covering stats/"facts and formulae" for each version of the game.
I vote for adding a 'Yes you can successfully enter hell games at CLvl1" section, otherwise known as Rushing, with apporpriate additional information. Getting a bit tired of seeing 'you cant be in hell below level 10 because you need to be 20 to beat ancient' posts. Sorry, young ones, phrase it in the form of a question next time.

For all minions there's a 15 frame delay between decisions.

Sure. It's just the normal amazon's breakpoint table for 2-handed thrust. The valk uses the same animations as the amazon. I did not use the german speed calc. Source is the game files for the data, and Myrdinn/Hammerman/Jarulf for the formula.

Baal was first :teeth:
Animation lengths are mostly approximates, especially the decrepify ones, except for the hit frame. Baal's AI seems to allow him to pick another attack before finishing an animation. It's what kills his AI when you put some slow on him.
Another oddity is that his second melee attack does in fact use the dmg values for the elemental dmg from the first melee attack. The same bug is what makes Gloams so powerful.
Melee attack2 in NM/hell freezes minions/hirelings and chills players, though I don't know if the Gloam bug also affects chill/freeze lengths. I don't remember getting chilled by him, except for an a5 barb getting popped by a melee attack, but that might be because of Cannot Be Frozen on Raven Frost.

I think it would be handier, is there was an index for the FAQ index. What I mean is have an alphabetized index, so all you have to do is click on the letter, and all the FAQ's under that letter come up (in a different page maybe?).

Anyways, lots of questions should be answered here!
