Offline Resources: What do you use?

Spreadsheets, Texts, and other Offline Resources

I've been curious for a while what all people use locally; be it a spread sheet, a piece of software, or a simple text file.

This certainly isn't limited to resources released by community members in the past (usually as an accompaniment to a guide), as I'm just as curious what sort of things people have made for themselves. Not to mention what one wishes one did have!

What I use:

  • TC lists (1.10+, 1.07), SetLists - These are great tools, particularly when still building up wealth, for making lists of what a given target can drop. For example I made a list of everything Mephisto could drop, then deleted everything I no longer needed. What was left was my 'hit list' of what to bother picking up. For someone like me who has trouble remembering which bases I'm supposed to be picking up vs not, I found this invaluable.

Tommi Gustafsson's pages:
  • To-Hit (AR & Defense formulae and info)
  • Damage (order, types, calculations)
  • Recovery Tables and (some) Calculations

Most, if not all, of this is up on the wiki these days (and the strategy compendium before that), but old habits from the ugly era of dial-up die hard.

From the old Strategy Compendium / Files Section of this site:

  • Runeword Wizard v133 - great offline tool from this site's past that I still make regular use of. These days it's mostly to double check ranges/rune-order, but I still enjoy selecting some sorting options and seeing which runewords I haven't made use of yet that I might wish to.
  • DK's Max Block Dex Finder - Simple calculator to tell you what dex you need to hit max block, given one's level and base block%. Using this less a bit these days since not many of my recent characters have been blockers, but it'll remain in my arsenal until I get off my lazy butt and add this to my own personal calculations spreadsheet.
  • D2 1.10 Hireling Stats spreadsheet - The stats for hirelings are around in various places over the interwebs, sometimes in tables, sometimes in calculators, but I generally come back to this one since I never remember where last I saw the same info online.

Stuff I've made/edited together:
  • Personal Calculations Spreadsheet:
    • to-hit calculator (with a table of common targets' defenses),
    • Hall of Records efficency calculator(outputs effective MF (vs Uniques), efficiency, adjeff, CAT etc...).
  • 1.07 Spread sheet with tables of:
    • Uniques,
    • Sets,
    • all items prefixes,
    • all item suffixes,
    • base weapons,
    • and base armours.
    • I use this all the time when racking if I don't remember whether or not a particular rack will give anything useful, as well as when theorycrafting targets for crafts/shops, and the necessary iLvls/QLvls/CLvls/etc.... I'm slowly making it more user-friendly and human readable over time.
  • 1.07 txt with all crafting recipes, and a cheat-sheet list of all the gem/rune types needed (and are therefore to be picked up always).

What I wish I had:

  • offline damage calc spreadsheet
  • offline EIAS/IAS calc spreadsheet
How about you?

I probably SHOULD make a list of unique items NOt to pick up for the perfect grail but I'm far too lazy
I made myself an exp calc and rune calc in the past but don't really need it anymore..

mostly just flavie reports from gomule :p

I use which ever list is shorter. If the to-pick-up list is shorter, than I have that on the other screen, and ignore anything not on that list. If the dont-pick-up list shorter, then I have that on the other screen, and then pickup anything not on that list.

Exp calc, huh? I should probably add that to my calculations sheet given I hope/plan to take my barb to 99. :)

I used to have then but with the constant forum changes here and elsewhere and a few crashes over the years I have to search from time to time.

I use only bunch of texts I made myself.

Travincal rune drop probabilities for my barb, including corpse shatter etc.
Pit running number of bosses
PvP text file for every char, where I list equipment, charms, stats etc.

Actually first two I don't really use, I mostly made the first one and doing the second one. I only use those PvP texts when I need to equip character. Anything else I use is online stuff like skill planner, IAS tables etc. Most of the stuff I know anyway and don't need tables for, and for some other things I prefer calculating the good old fashion way with calculator in my hands right away.

I have made several excel sheets to help planning and other stuff.

What was first a complete Mage calculator with gear, stats, skills, life/mana calculator etc is now used to plan every PvP character. A damage per attack calculator for Bowazons, WWbarb, Charger and Wolfbarb. A rune hunting calculator from Fabian. A small one to list my res/life small charms and another to list ar, ar/dmg and dmg with life small charms.

Everything else I sometimes need it's always online. Skill calculators, check breakpoints if I forget any and some guides now and then.

I use an excel weapon damage calculator which then feeds into a full character damage calculator including an average damage output calculator which factors in % to hit and critical strikes %.
This way I can make informed decisions particularly when it comes to putting various jewels/runes into weapons as well as off-weapon socketing of jewels.

I wish there was a ''mod'' that would separate the things I dont want to pick up when doing LK runs. For example gold, potions, scrolls and such.

If only :p

At the very least autopickup for gold or something would be handy

Very cool! I can see how they'd be useful. :) For the mage calculator, did you end up having to pull from anything other than the arreat summit for formulae?

Where did you both end up pulling your damage formulae from? The wiki? Arreat Summit? RTB's damage formulae posts?

That is something I miss from more modern games in this genre whenever I come back to D2. Especially the auto-gold pick up which is present in most games. My favourite was probably Hellgate London's system which was like you had an item vacuum, and you could configure thresholds to avoid grabbing say junk white items if you wished.

For stat and skills I used what's in arreat. For life/mana I don't what I used but in the end I polished it comparing the life/mana ingame and fixing minor bugs.

For the damage one I don't remember also what I used but for testing I compared it to one online calculator.
