Obedience runeword question

Obedience has -25% enemy fire resistance
so, would my fireballs do more damage if my Merc has a weapon with Obedience on it? How does that work?

According to the stickied guide inhere no it doesn;t increase your dmg.

Your mercenary's fire damage would be increased, but yours would not. You'll need to equip obedience yourself for that to work.

Sorry for necroing, but I cannot find anything on this from the search. Is it a reasonable idea to equip Obedience as a weapon on the sorceress herself? Right now I am using Spirit sword and Visceratuant for +3 skills and 27% fcr. Loosing this to -25% FR seems quite interesting to me, but since no one else have written about it, there must be a catch somewhere.

The catch is that sorceresses are generally too fragile to go into melee without shields. I'm even putting together a Sorceress with very high levels of ES and still need a shield to hold it together.

But does the -25% only count when you melee attack with the weapon, or is holding it enough, and will your spells also do more damage?

@kanonfutter: IF it works (and I have no idea, you could test it on Hell-difficulty on Fallen, who have 100% fire resistance), it may work for you now, but if you get better gear you'll lose out on a lot. I use the Occulus and a Spirit shield, so if I switch to Obedience it costs me +5 to skills, 60% FCR and resists which is not worth it IMO.

Re: Obedience runeword question

I am very confident that the -25% counts on the spells, although it will not break immunities. I am not into melee sorceresses, but rather to get Meph done faster on the moat trick. The suggestion of testing is a bit problematic. I am poor as dirt, so Obedience will cut heavily into my rune pool, leaving me at one Fal left. If the weapon is made, it needs to be in a normal polearm to cut the req's, so my other chars will not have much use of it.

Is there a place to see damage increase for skills above 20? That would kind of solve the problem, calculating dam/sec with different available setups.

I'll have a look at it tonight, I already have an Obedience on one of my mercs, and if my fire druid meets the requirements for the weapon, I'll let him have a go at it.

I crunched some numbers, and in the low (slvl 20-25) end, +5 skills gives +45% dam on a meteor. So it will be more effective if the monster res is above ~50%. More numbers will follow.
