    Oath in what?

Hello guys, I want to get a new weapon for my Avenger pala, killing is starting to get slow with Nord's Tenderizer. I saw I have the runes for Oath and would like to try it, but should I go for a sword (Conquest or Cryptic?) or an axe (Berserker, Small Crescent, or other?)?

It would be a nice bonus if it was usable for a Frenzy barb later on. I don't have any of the base items necessary so maybe a 4 socket max would be the easiest base to get right. What do you think?

Also, would people laugh if I did it in a non-ethereal? :)

    Thanks!

    Re: Oath in what?

I had a similar conundrum several months ago. I chose a Cryptic Sword. It has good speed and since I was set on a 1.07 eth weapon, it got a great damage bonus.

However, weapons with a wide damage range are not ideal for an Avenger, so I'd probably recommend one with a tighter range. Maybe a War Spike would suit you well? Check TitanSeal's attack speed calc to see if a -10 weapon is much better than a 0 weapon. If the difference is small or manageable, I'd go with a Berserker Axe probably.

A big reason that I steered clear of BAs was that they look a bit silly.

The only benefit of a non-eth weapon is that you get to use the Heart of Wolverine, but without other minions to draw fire, HoW doesn't last long in Hell. It's not really worth it, so use an ethereal weapon if it's at all possible. You can go ahead and make a non-eth Oath and then remake later in an eth base.

    Example:

    Oath
    Cryptic Sword
    ShaelPulMalLum
    One Hand Damage: 33 - 550
    Durability: 23 of 23
    Required Level: 61
    Required Strength: 89
    Required Dexterity: 99
    Fingerprint: 0x1709b73
    Item Level: 87
    Version: Expansion
30% Chance to cast level 20 Bone Spirit on striking
    Indestructible
    +50% Increased Attack Speed
    379% Enhanced Damage
    +75% Damage to Demons
+100 to Attack Rating against Demons
    Prevent Monster Heal
    +10 to Energy
    +11 Magic Absorb
Level 17 Iron Golem (14/14 Charges)
Level 16 Heart of Wolverine (20/20 Charges)
    Ethereal
    4 Sockets (4 used)
    Socketed: Shael Rune
    Socketed: Pul Rune
    Socketed: Mal Rune
    Socketed: Lum Rune

I like it in my Ettin Axe because it makes an amazing twink weapon. Damage is pretty much on par with the zerker, but I can use it much earlier and the requirements are low, too. Also, don't make it in a non-eth weapon. Seriously, you'd waste so much damage.

My first oath was in a non-eth highland blade simply because that's all I had. These aren't hard to come by when you are running nightmare baal, just kill everything on the way done and one will drop guaranteed. An eth one is insane on a frenzy barb and hit all the breakpoints. It might work on an avenger if you willing to trade off your shield.

Go for a Conquest Sword, Cryptic Sword or Small Crescent. All these will get 4 sockets at Larzuk so just find a plain eth one. You will lose a huge chunk of damage using a non eth one.

My recommendation would be the Small Crescent for the lower reqs, it is slower however.

    Re: Oath in what?

    So I used this:

    *Removed Link To Other Site*

It says frames per attack is the same for Oath zerker axe as for Oath Small Cresent (11) if I understand it correctly. With more +IAS, say 20%, from other sources the zerker will start to shine of course. For twinking pleasures as mentioned, and tighter damage range, and since it easier to find an eth one, AND easier to get sockets right, I think I'll go with Small Crescent then if I can find one.

Would it be correct to assume that I should run ilvl 61 areas since the axe has qlvl 61, and with 0% MF? Or is it your experience I'll probably find one soon enough in Ancient Tunnels p1 with ~350% MF?

Edit: I recall we shouldn't always link to other sites, but I used TitanSeal's calculator.

    Re: Oath in what?

I've linked to it numerous times. Unless Thyiad said not to, I'd say go ahead, of course, now people can just google "titanseal"....

When in doubt, pm Thyiad first.

Edit: Also, I think that a Small Crescent is a good choice.

    Re: Oath in what?

If you only have the runes for one roll at the moment, I would reccomend waiting for eth as well. I was impatient with my first and it had a good ed roll (330ish IIRC) and it still has lower avg damage than the the two eth ones that I got crappy (220-230) rolls on later.
