Oak Sage in hell

Oak Sage in hell

For my PvM Windy I was wondering if i should max my oak sage before twister or after. I'm kinda concerned about it just being cannon fodder if it isnt a decent lvl going into hell, but at the same time how well does a lvl 30 oak survive in hell? So bottom line: Twister before oak? or even no oak at all?

I would max Twister to increase Tornado's attack damage and then after maxing all of Tornado's synergies max Oak Sage last. Should also put one point in Oak sage in the meantime while maxing the other skills. Your Oak Sage will get killed a lot but its very easy to re-summon it.

I think Oak sage has "hidden" damage reduction too when you get it to lvl 12 or so.

I have a maxed oak on one of my wolves and I swear the thing NEVER dies and it takes a HORRIBLE pounding in HELL difficulty.

I think you are referring to the immunity's that Oak Sage has in normal , nightmare and hell mode. I know for sure it is Physical immune in nightmare but in hell mode it is only immune to poison.

I found this from an old guide, could help.

It doesn't tell you, but as the oak sage levels up, not only does it get more life, but it gets drastic defense, damage reduction, physical damage resistance, magical resistance (and eventually immunity!). My oak sage is highly resistant or immune to magic damage, immune to poison, seems to have at least 90% stone skin, etc More points = "more better". Because of this, at high levels, I find oak sage to be an excellent summonable, even better than most 'minions'! Even in act 5/hell ancients way it can draw 9 attackers (get surrounded) and take a beating for a LONG time. Then I just resummon where I need him to take hits. At low levels this isn't true though, so try to keep him out of harms way. Oak sage gives the bonus to you, your hireable, and your party members.
I do know for a fact that in hell mode it sure don't seem like it has stone skin and gets taken down with a few hits from most monsters, however in nightmare it does soak up a load of physical damage.

Oak Sage WAS Stone skin etc. in hell in 1.09 but has been at least part Nerfed in 1.1+

Oak Sage is immune to malee attack in NM, in Hell only to poison.

But! - do not worry, its not that weak - my oak sage is about 3x lvl, life almost 700 and it can take few good hits - if you do not jump into pack of might+fana blood lords or vipers - you will live through. My druid has 1100 life without OS, and 3200 with it, without much charms, bk's, awesome amu, no, I do not have it.

Max Oak Sage as FIRST - not last, 300-400 dmg less from Tornado will not kill you, you will just use 2 tornados more. But 5-6 lvl lower Oak sage will give you 500 life less, its pretty big difference.

I maxed Oak, Tornado, cyclone armor, hurricane, now twister and its good order for me.

Thanks guys. I ended up going with twister first, cause I figured what the hell. Turns out with all my +skills oak survives pretty well with only 10 points in him at this point and the only time he dies fast enough to give me grief is Hell Baal.
