Nub question - items on cbn

I play cbn (ladder) for a very short time and I have problems with gathering items and runes - i don't know what to keep and what to sell ;p Need some advice on:
- which white/eth/slotted items are worth keeping and trading
- which low runes should I gather and which I should merge in the cube
- which small and grand charms are worth something serious ;p

Thx for any help

On socketables -- most of them end up declining in price rather sharply so you have a very short period to capitalize on them.

In the short term:

- 4 Socket Flail
- 4 Socket Monarchs
- 4 Socket Paladin Shields
- 4 Socket Crystal Swords

In the long term:

- 4 Socket Ethereal Paladin Shields
- 5 and 6 Socket Berserker Axes, Ethereal or Non-Ethereal
- 4 Socket Matriarchal and Grand Matron Bows with +3 Skills
- 4 Socket Ethereal Elite Polearms
- 5 Socket Crystal Swords and Flails (these were super popular even late-reset for CtA rerolls)
- 3 and 4 Socket Elite Armors, particularly the light armors with superior defense: Dusk Shroud through Archon Plate

On runes:

The most valuable smaller runes are used for crafting certain Caster and Blood items (e.g. Ral, Sol). There's usually a very niche market for Safety jewelry and Hit Power gloves (particularly these as the reset goes on).

As far as merging, these were the cubes that were and weren't doing from last reset.

2 x Um = Mal (not worth doing)
2 x Ist = Gul (not worth doing)
2 x Lo = Sur (never worth doing)
2 x Ber = Jah (never worth doing)
2 x Jah = Cham (never worth doing)

There were no cube combinations that were directly profitable, but in general, cubing any other combination not listed here was "break even," and was usually better since the resulting rune was usually easier to trade.

On charms:

As far as grand charms go, the skillers that are most valuable are Paladin Combat, Poison and Bone, Traps, or Sorceress related. Second mods of high value include FHR, +Life (particularly high Vita mods) or FRW. Also of high value include:

+20 life small charms
high value +AR / Max damage charms of any size with second mods
+ AR charms with good second mods
+ all resistance charms with or without good second mods
+ single resistance charms with good second mods

There's also a significant market for LLDers particularly concerning +15 life small charms and some other low level req charms.

In terms of making crazy profit with decent investment and reliability, your best options are:

- Hunt anni charms (usually worth doing anyways by AFKing "hot" servers)
- Farm keys and sell torches before the market tanks (this will make you a veritable fortune if you get ahead quickly enough)
- Gamble or find crazy rares, particularly jewelry
- Craft crazy items as listed above
- Reroll Baal and Nihlathak charms until you get crazy prefix / vita combinations
- Read up on the VLLD, LLD and MLD markets, and hunt items to sell to those people

This is pretty spot on, but the only high runes I would cube is Vex's and Chams, but only if you need Ohms and Zods. You didn't mention 2 x Ber = Jah on your never worth doing. Why is that? Ber and Jah are allmost allways rated the same.

Wow nice ;o Thx that helps a lot. Just threw away 2x flail 5 sox cause i thought only 4sox is worth anything.. Only thing left for me unsolved is mergig low runes. I noticed on the last ladder (played only 2 last weeks..) that certain low runes (used for crafting) were often sold i packs of 20 and more for pul-ists. Ral, amn, tal, ort - anyting else worth keeping? I hate to see 10 mules full of el/elds and any other useless runes..

I didn't list Ber to Jah because it didn't occur to me. I'll edit the original post and see if I forgot anything else.

I actually did Mal to Ist, Gul to Vex, and Sur to Ber many times last reset. I would even consider Um to Mal if you can't get a 3 to 1 exchange rate versus Ist (which gets much harder as the reset goes on), but you technically "lose" money when you do this. Definitely stockpile regular gems for cubing. It saves you a lot of hassle.

As a rule of thumb, if it can be used for a popular craft, it's worth keeping. You can check the Arreat Summit crafting page for more information, but these are the three big crafts:

Caster Amulet - Ral Rune
Blood Rings - Sol Rune
Hit Power Gloves - Ort Rune

There is lesser demand for these items but they're still popular: Blood Gloves, Blood Belts, Blood Amulets, Caster Belts, Caster Rings, Caster Boots, Safety Amulets and Safety Rings. Check the Arreat Summit for the corresponding runes.

Correspondingly, Perfect Amethysts and Rubies tend to be significantly more valuable than the other perfect gems. Perfect Sapphires to an extent as well. Unless you find a Safety crafter, particularly for amulets, Perfect Emeralds will not have increased value in trades.

I don't feel you ever "make" money from cubing runes, but I've already listed the cubes where you "lose" money. It is, however, worth maintaining a single character stockpile of low runes (El to Lem) for convenience purposes. This character should be separate from your crafting and money mules.

Nub questions v 2.0:
- I wanted to exp on telebaal servers a little, and i noticed i get less exp in 8 pple party on baal than solo - is that normal? I thought the exp is 4.5x better..
- Does any GC that baal dropped is fine for rerolling? I got one with 25% more cash drop..

Baal charms: magic grand charms from hell Diablo, Nihlathak and Baal are great for rerolling. Usually reroll from Dia and Baal because these two are certainly from the Bosses. The mods on the items don't matter.
