NPC speeches

NPC speeches

Does anyone know how you can listen to all the NPC speeches (preferably on a Mac, but PC would be okay too)? I'd like to listen to the obscure ones and ones for classes that I'm not likely to play much of (namely Druid and Asssassin).
I assume that it has something to do with the Diablo II Speech file on the Mac, but how can you access the speeches themselves?

Thanks!

I can answer that - the speech files are packed into the d2speech.mpq. They must be extracted with a tool called mpq2k. Here is the Phrozenkeep link: <link deleted> - AE

All mpq2k files must be in the d2 folder. Mpq2k is a dos program. You may go dos mode or create this batch:

start mpq2k.exe -l d2speech.mpq

will list all files in the mpq and they may be extracted like this:

start mpq2k.exe -e d2speech.mpq [folder\folder\folder\file.wav] [new folder\file.wav]

The general use of mpq2k require you to read its readmes and faqs anyway.

Is it allowed to give links to Phozen Keep?
Um, no it's not :) No links to competing D2 forum site are allowed.

Quest for Glory, I've just visited our main page and see no PK links. But maybe I'm mistaken.

Perhaps he is refering to the link in the atma credit page, which is hosted by diabloii.net. It is there and working. It is how I discovered Phrozen Keep in the first place. :)

That's because it has been removed.

Thanks Quest,

I found a mac version of mpq2k and extracted the MP3 speech files. There's about 1500 of 'em! Most of them have a popping sound in them, but the extraction's good enough to hear what's being said.

I'd never known that Duriel actually says something when you enter Tal Rasha's Tomb--thought he just grunted or something--but now I've listened to the MP3 files of his 2 "taunts" and realized that he WAS saying something! :uhhuh:

It's interesting listening to the unused taunts in the game. One of Andy's is the best. "The east is beyomd your grasp" sounds so cool. Lot's of unused Nihlathak and Izual taunts as well. Anyways, interesting tidbits!

Yay! Nice going Howitzer.. I had some fun going through the files myself. Especially the .tbl files can provide some cool discoveries. Anyway my bad, Alter Ego - I don't want to be breaking forum rules, I just failed to realize that even though the diabloii.net are hosting phrozenkeep links, it does not mean rpgforums are. The link seems to have been removed though..
