Nothing left but mules

My hammerdin just died to some dolls, and he was the only other character I had. I had an ice sorceress for a little, but she died too. Anyway, I'm just feeling really disenchanted with the whole thing right now for several different reasons.

None of my friends play this game anymore, so all that's left for me is solo play. I like playing in parties, but I just absolutely abhor the general Bnet populace. I'd love to get into a team or something, but even here on the forums it's mostly just all talk. Nothing ever gets done, and so I'm stuck playing by myself for most of my games. To me, this severely limits my enjoyment of the game because there are character builds that I would love to try out but won't ever get the chance to because I'm not rich and because they aren't viable for playing solo.

Public games are just the worst. It's impossible to find someone to quest with as most of the time people are just concerned with leeching. That and about 90% of the people who play this game refuse to play by the rules and are decked out with pindlebot, maphack, chickenhack and triggerhack.

Trading is pointless as well for me because as a non-hacker, I don't have access to all the shiny uniques like shako, SS and such. I remember spending hours in trade channels trying to acquire a set CB for my mercenary. It wasn't funny when the first person wanted a Jah for it, nor was it funny when the twentieth person did as well. At some point, I offered a 7% smfc for one, and the guy I was trying to trade with not only turned it down, but he insulted me! No names will be mentioned, but I'll say this much: he's someone from the forums and I have my suspicions that he bots.

Anyway, I really have no idea what to do right now. I really don't want to rebuild either my sorceress or my hammerdin, but rebuilding them is the only way I can start getting better items to fund newer characters which will be enjoyable. It'd be kind of cool to build a S&S WW barb. Too bad the patch completely screwed melee characters.

So I really don't know. Right now I have nothing left but lots of mules. It seems to me right now that any character I make will be a futile effort.

Right now I'm experimenting chars who can solo the game without high risk and without good gear, so I've been playing solo most of the time.


I'd say - don't get so discouraged even if you'd still play solo from time to time. Hammerdin or sorc are not melee. But if you like melee, play a hybrid kicker sin. With max'ed SM + HF merc, you'd have a much easy time playing the game. Her dmg output is bit smaller than a pure melee or a pure traper, but she's safer, and is okay either solo or in party. Another idea is a hybrid summoner druid - you'd just need more patience going through the game. Both builds can use any items you come by. Both are very safe. Both can defeat the entire game solo or in party.

About my only advice is make new friends or just move on, that is all we can do when people leave the game. My FList has been a revolving door since day one but it seems I have 2-5 ppl that are on it and on regularly.

BTW, dont you go thinking WW Barbs are "dead" i have made a few and they do fine in small to medium games even with low end gear. A buddy of mine quested Hell wiht my using Butchers and some 96% ED Zerkers Axe, Durys, Tals Mask, Hsarus boots and belt and other miscelaneous normally throw away items. The whole key to a good WW Barb is 2 hand of some for and try your best to get CB and DS fit in somewhere.

1 Handers work very fine in small games also and like I said it dont take uber stuff to do well. I mad e aRicracker WW Barb and quested Hell with him on a private relm not long ago. i finally got the staff upped the day before they reset the ladder hehe!!!

There are many ways to enjoy this game and items are simply a luxury until Hell and even there you can do well with a lot less than you think.

If you want to tinker around in Clasic give me a holler, I can put you in touch with some legit guys that quest on East or even wiht Viamede in Asia if that floats your boat.

Also, althouhg I play a lot less in public now, I still do some and there are still ppl out there worth playing with.

Hey it's not that we have to be rich to play the game. I didn't even have a SOL rune until last night (when did season 2 start?). But I don't care. I'll finsih the game with all my chars in whatever gears they happen to have. These include 1 zon, 1 asn, 1 necro, 1 druid,1 pally, 1 barb (stupid barb!!!), 1 sorc, and probably also a 2nd sorc(Lightening-based, lvl 40 ATM) and a 2nd zon(bow-based, only lvl 12 ATM).

I've played a kicker/LS hybrid and beaten the game with her solo. This was in season 1, and I don't really feel like rebuilding her since it's something I've already done. I don't like druids, so I won't bother playing one.

I just don't know what I want in this game anymore. I feel like I want the means to an end I'm not certain about. The means being a character that can find a lot of great stuff. But right now, that's just really far out there. Any character I can think of building just seems kind of impossible or pointless right now:

Trapper - Don't have the gear, and can't get through hell on her own (too many lightning immunes)
Kicker - I would get about as far as level 30 and then she'd be useless
Hybrid Asn - Done it before

Frenzy Barb - Don't have the gear for it, and I've done it before
S&S WW Barb - Don't have the gear for it
Conc Barb - Don't have the gear for it
Singer - Impossible to solo, no gear

Summoner - So tired of necros...
Bone or poison necro - Too slow going in the beginning, wouldn't make it to the end where it'd be fun

I could go on, but I just don't see the point right now in anything related to this game. I'm sure it's just because of my recent loss and just how boring this day is in general. I mean, it's raining outside for Christ's sake...

I felt like this at one point and one build revitalized this game for me. The Cleric. Ofcourse this involves playing bnet or solo mp games all the time but i had alot of fun. I found the build to bring a whole new aspect to the game for me and you really dont need great gear to do decent damage or heal. Hope my input helps. :thumbsup:

Well a Trapper with Fire and Light and a LR wand that is shopable will beat this game.

Trappers really need nothing but what can be shopped or found easily.

My 96 Sin from last season did solo everything but she soloed all bosses but Diablo hell for quest for the drop and wore this when she finally beat Baal Solo.

(2) Rare rings with rez and mana, both came from Gidbin Quest

All she added before lvl 96 was:

+3 trap claw
Smoke Archon
(4) trap charms

My light damage was sub 3 k for a long time and fire was abotu 900 I beleive

Barb merc used a Bloodletter til like 75 when i found an ETH 187 elite sword for him and had a 7% LL Circlet and i found an ETH Balrog armor for him like 1400 D......

Trappers do not take top gear.My


My current trapper lvl 87 has much lesser gear, even using an upped Dark Glow for Armor and kite diamond shild and a +2 claw, found Peasants last night and Frosties also.

Trappers can mow down NM beasts and Mf anywhere.....and can run Eld, Shenk and Pindle well.

Also made both a DTalon and DTail sin last season, the key is crushing blow, and 1 point Blade fury!!! Shop and gamble claws and try and get a Tucs. Angelics can get AR BIG, Goblin toes upped once will do the trick, or Gores, Strength Claw is also good.

Shadow Master is what makes things work when you have crap gear.

Pure Kicker Assassin will do fine until Hell... I played mine untwinked, and built her wrong... and still was more than able to use her for harvesting Andy and Eldritch/Shenk in NM easily.

I would've done Meph, but I think the walk takes too long and I'm not that big a fan of Fast dolls (since they're roughly as fast as a BoS assassin).

It won't get you the uberleet gear, but it will get you enough gear to get you started on a more decent char.

my season 1 trapper - pure L-based - beat Hell solo (except didn't do Nik & partied for Hell ancients) and finally solo killed Baal to get her the guardian title at about lvl 83 - retired at lvl 85 after a few more hours play. When Hell Baal finally collapsed and started to vomit, this trapper had about 180 defense, no unique, no set, no runeword! She never skipped a single monster during her questing games or becuase of LI. She also never skipped a single place (except Nik's temple lvl3) during her quests because dangerous monsters were packed there - all Hell quests (including black book, baal, etc) were finsihed on her very first attempt. Although every monster in Hell had 95% chance to hit my trapper, SM + merc + DS = kill all LI's = she was able to go and kill just about everywhere.

I was once very proud that I made a guardian with the pure L-based trapsin in that poor gear in just about 1 week, and thought 1.10 made the game really easy compared to 1.09.



BTW, did you ever mention ama?
A javazon only needs a good wpn + a good shield to be effective. a hybrid zon should have little trouble finishing Hell, tho I did this in the past but haven't done so since 1.10 came out (because, sadly, my HCL zon got Pk'ed when partied for faster lvling in NM baal runs, which was completely my fault).

PS for my season 1 trapper:

dual claws, no shield (if a pure trapper needs a shield, blame the player), no wpn on switch (or say two empty slots on switch - good for picking up loots), no traper skiller (found one just before I stopper playing her), no Low Resist wand (I knew the trick, but never needed one).

All items were found or bought for gold. All items were chozen for one of the three purposes:

1- add resists
2- add +skills
3- add extra life/mana.

although every monster (act1 Fallens included) in Hell had 95% chance to hit her, she didn't have a close call - not even close to that - throughout the entire game.

the only problem was i could sleep while playing my zon (so she got Pk'ed) but couldn't do so with this trapper.

i hear you man, i get these all the times, lost my lvl 80 sorc 2 days ago, thats my seccond high lvl sorc i lost since ladder reset, traded 1 of 2 um runes i had for wiz, my best items, quickly after that iam dead, so now iam making a fanadin (my fav) so damn quick fellas, when this happen to me i take a lil break for like 2 days, play cs or watch tv or go out with friends, hope you get back on track, all my flists, on all my accs are dead well all but like 1, if your on east you can give me a call if iam on cuz of work

It would be nice to have someone by my side when I go into the flayer dungeon to build that flail every now and then.
