    Not so newbie needs help

I have been playing both d2 and the x and cant seem to figure out how to place something in a socketed item, the book tells me to put it in my backpack and then take the item and place over the socketed item and left click, but that does not work, should i be doing something else or what.

That's quite strange... are you sure the item you're trying to socket has sockets or the item you want to put in is something that can be socketed also... usually where the socketed item is doesn't matter... it should just be taking the jewel/rune/gem and drag to socketed item, then left click... it should pop right in... maybe there's something already in the said socket?

Here's a question, do you run maphack?
Maphacks have been known to interfere with socketing items.

Either you are running maphack or you try to insert something that can't be inserted. Runes, jewels and gems can be inserted.
