Not Completely OT: That New Game Sacred (its like Diablo III!)

Anyone played the demo? its pretty nice, get it at www.sacred-fans.net

It comes out in march sometime, and multiplayer will be like Bnet but without all the cheating (I hope)

Anyone planning on getting it?

maybe ill get it.

there is bound to be cheating sooner or later.
i downloaded and played the demo (as the gladiator, not had time for the seraph yet) over the weekend. i really liked the game, but somehow it seemed the killing aspect was a bit too easy.. and required no skill other than to click on the enemy. with this statement i am only talking about the regular monsteres, not the minotaurs etc, because the did require some strategy to kill. anyway, i do think i am going to get the game, just not when it first come out. i think i would rather wait and see what the general reaction is to it, and then play.

i played the lionheart demo, and absolutely loved it, but then the game came out, and i waited a bit, and the reviews were not so hot. and there is no way i was spending 50 on a game that was really short, etc.
on a related note, lionheart is alot like sacred, so im not too sure if i wanna buy it, just another reason for waiting a few weeks after it comes out to see what the public reaction is.

If it's a Diablo clone, it will almost definitely not be as good as Diablo...

I'll wait until more people can give me opinions on it.

It's made by the people who left blizzard. So in fact, it's pretty close to being a diabloiii.

It also is free-roaming IIRC.

(If any of this information is wrong, blame my faulty memory)

u cant call it diabloiii or no where close to it, where the heck is diablo in that game. -.-
i think another reason why they left blizzard is to avoid such expectations.

The people who left Blizzard=Flagship Studios? Lots of people have left Blizzard over the years...

I'm apparently wrong, oops! :)

Sacred is developed by the German company Ascaron. They have been in the game development business since 1991 and are well-known for eco-sims like the popular Patrician and Port Royale series. Sacred is their first action-roleplaying game. .
Oh well.

I think this post could've been merged with the other OT threads, kind of like how the other game threads were.

Probably.

Ex-Blizzard employees formed Flagship Studios and another group is making Guild Wars, I think.

Sacred looks kinda good... not sure how ~12 "abilities" per character class is gonna work.. or that combo thing... Crafting should be good though.

I found the combat to be a bit... ify. I liked that you could lock-on to an enemy in D2, but here the lock seems to slip off quite often and you end up hitting the full hp monster just off to the side of the monster who is on 1hp... I like any magic/melee character though, (why I'm always drawn to paladins) so that seraphim looks quite fun to play...

I get the feeling this is gonna be alot like "Morrowind, but better". Rather than "D2, but better". Morrowind was very free-roaming, but the magic system sucked *** and the difficulty curve was more of a difficulty step. Downwards.

I'm sure the beasties will get harder later on into the game, but if a game is as free roaming as this promises to be, then you will have to use your own judgement as to when you can venture safely into an area, rather then being spoon-fed it on an "act" or "chapter" basis.

AFK playing Sacred demo again.

Stupid demo is short as hell, I only got to rescue the wizards books.

demo has 15 quests, enough for level 7 or so. you just have to stay within the limits of the area. The demo build is almost 2 months old, so full game is a lot less buggy. Demo also has difficulty toned down. full game is harder, and has 4 diff levels

ah well, graphic art is not impressing me. gameplay is ok, rp is nice nice nice, equipment is better by far it seems (i still like to mf though and d2!)

i might buy it nonetheless. i wonder how they work anti cheating and patches.

Yeah I'll probably pre order it, I've been playing a lot of Wizardry 8 and like the free roaming thing, oh and get the UK version if you do get it. US version has full gore turned off

www.gogamer.com has it up for pre-order 44 for UK 39 for US not bad at all

Oh and Tor the internet on my comp with diablo is out (dad got pissed and cut the cord) I might install it on this one.

About Sacred... I played it, but wasn't impressed. It's not really a Diablo clone, it's more like a Morrowind/Baldur's Gate/Neverwinter Nights kind of game. It's a lot more complicated than Diablo also (the interface is quite confusing at first). I didn't really understand the combo or blacksmithing system either, so that might have detracted from the game somewhat. Overall, though, I think I'll save my money by not buying this one.
