    **** yea! sorry, couldnt resist.
Anyway, i say the odds are that they wont, either because they'll decide to continue there "we dont trust anybody. go away you foreigners!" policy, or god ole' president shrub will cock it up and demand democracy and want to rename the country 'new USA'.

Still... there is a simple solution to all of this... You guys join my cause, help me overthrow the gov't, and then in a small ruling company under a different name than government, we pretend that everybody is equal, kill off a third of the world's population to make them easier to control, and then dictate the difference between 'right' and 'wrong'....

    "Missiles" are not "nuclear weapons."

And it's unlikely that America will unilaterally jump on a chance like this without coordinating actions with South Korea and Japan. There are a lot of complicated relationships in the region, and one thing making them especially complicated is the number of times Pyongyang has made promises and then gone back on them a few years later.

It's possibly positive news, but I don't have a lot of confidence that it'll lead to good things in the long run.

Yep, cos we all know that good 'lde Kim is completely without peer and always on the up and up.

The day that NK gives up missiles is the day when I, completely without regard to my own safety, eat a corned-beef sandwich.

My, you're living life on the edge.

Sadly, this is actually a pretty smart move by Kimmie. He'll give up his nukes just as soon as the U.S. signs international treaties that they will take no hostile moves against him. Win-Win!

    Wrong sort of 'grass', Drunk...

"Washington looks unlikely to respond favorably to Kim's latest reported remarks. Diplomatic relations with the North would be all but impossible before a nuclear deal and before Washington detected improved human rights in the communist state."

Hehe..... the US wants human rights to be upheld in NK, before the talks can start! Now that's a good demand! :D

Do you think Kim Jong-il might be getting a bit lonely?

I'm so ronery. So ronery. So
    ronery and sadry arone. Dere's
no one, just me onry, sitting on
    my rittle throne.

I wook rearry hard and make up
    great plans. But nobody
    listens, no one understands...
Seems that no one takes me
    SER-RI-ROUS-REEEEEEEEE...
    And so... I'm rone-ry... A rittle
    rone-ry... Poor rittle me.

Dere's nobody I can rerate to.
Feel rike a bird in a cage. It's
    kind of sirry...But not rearry...
    Because it's firring my body
    with rage!

I 'm the smartest most clever,
    most physically fit but nobody
    seems to rearize it.

When I change the world maybe
    they'll notice meeeeeeeeee---
    until then I'll just be
    lonely...poor little me...
    I'm so rone-ryyyyyy.

Hehe...... The fact the US ask these things is strange in light of the Gitmo-discussion.

That they ask NK is strange because they will never have high HR-standards!

And, that the US doesn't demand those kind of things from China, is strange.... or even....... HYPERCRITICAL (EDIT: sorry Syxx, just a joke!).

Yeah, and those are hardly lurid.

But David, given your comments, I honestly haven't heard of any of the guards chowing down on the Gitmo detainees yet, playing with electroshock, experimenting with nerve gases, or killing detainees' children in front of them. Probably just an oversight - I'm sure we'll read about it in Newsweek soon.
