Noob Trapsin at level 79
Howdy all, I was recently in a game with a druid who started mocking me because i wasn't causing enough damage and didnt have enough life. The nerd started boasting about how he's only level 70 and has 4000 life and does 15,000 damage with his cheesy whirlwinds. I didn't even think this was possible (forgive my ignorance i've only had this game a month) but i thought my character wasn't too bad, until i ended up in hell (joined a nm baal run room and ended up in act1 hell, i didnt even get to see baal in that room it just went straight to act 1 hell, total piss off). So now i'm in hell and can't even kill the basic of monsters, mostly because everything is lightning immune which sucks for me. Anyway here are my stats with my gear (which is not all that great).

My gear mostly consists of random crap, but my defense is just over 1k and with my shield and fade on level 7 im about +25 to all resistances in hell which i am told isn't too bad. I use my traps with my shadow master, and if the monster isn't poison immune i switch to my second set of weapons which is double claws (random claws that do around 60-90dmg) with venom and cobra strike doing about 330-430 damage, i also use a mercenary from act3 that freezes (i've had him since normal and is now level 78 with over 3k defense), but can't keep him in hell as it costs around 50k to resurrect him and at the rate at which i die I can't afford it.
I am looking for any kind of guidance that will help me improve my damage to my traps as the cocky nerd i was playing with told me my traps should be level 40+ (fail to see how that is possible), and i should have 2000+ life at least. I have about 30 pgems a few rare runes which i am willing to part with for the right gear including: ko, ist, lem, sol and few others. Any suggestions?
