Non-enhancing item slot

Non-enhancing item slot

Wouldn't it be sweet if there was one slot for items that added nothing to your characters stats/abilities/etc. and only enhanced the characters appearance?
The slot could be non-specific so you could wear capes, masks, wigs, face paint, robes, etc.

Really the only thing this would add to the game is slightly more diversity in the looks department, but I think it'd be well worth it.

Obvious problem: monsters dropping these useless items instead of useful ones.

Maybe instead of an additional useless item slot, how about enhancing an existing slot? This could be adding a cape to a suit of armor, horns to a helm (or face paint as an addition to some sort of headgear), etc. Robes and masks are probably already items in themselves, as they were in D2.
Then again, I'm sure item models are already diverse to an extent. Maybe they could take it a step farther and add a chance of an item having some other feature in addition to a general model. Unique items could also have this, so many people could have the same unique armor, but only some of them have capes or spiked pauldrons or something with no additional bonuses (or maybe they could, for varying item values).

They'd never actually add a slot like that, but I guess it's cool to think about that visual aspect anyway.

That would also have the effect of reducing the cookie cut look,it would even add to the trading aspect as people might collect a set of uniques that have similar designs.I think the only thing people might complain with this is adding to development time but it is actually an Issue that does crop up,players looking Identical.

Brilliant. A much better way to implement this feature.

That's what I was thinking, too: item variation and additional trade value for grailers looking for every permutation of every item, or just those who simply want a change of appearance without sacrificing bonuses (although item stats with varying values is something to consider in that respect).

The problem about the last idea is that it would SUCK to get a version you do´nt like of the rare unique item...:coffee:
