    no post counter.

u are kind of left to wonder just exactly how much trashy, nonsense posts would be left out... if there was no counter.

the counter creates a sense of pride. if i have more posts, i am cooler.
look at me.. i have xxxx number of posts while you only have xx.

i dont know... ive seen boards where they dont count posts...and i like the system better.. this system is cool and all too.. to distinguish the regulars from the new people.. but im sure even without the post counters, the regulars woud be distinguished anyways... through reputation and what not.

i dunno.. what do you guys think?

I think you'll find that most people here don't put any stock in post count. With a few exceptions, it's the quality of the posts, not the quantity, that determine a member's contribution.

of course theyre not going away
i dont want them to. they shoudlnt go away without a valid reason.

and yes. its quality, not quantity that matters.

but with a post counter, it becomes quantity.

I'd just like to take this moment to say that I now have 1300 posts. Thank you. Thank you. You're too kind. :teeth:

But seriously, I don't really think that the amount of posts one has is really paid that much attention to. Unless, of course, your name is Ash Housewares. Then everything's game. :cheesy: :teeth:

He would say something along the lines of

and then he would be banned or something

    I dont know, ask him

I blame ash, cause I know he will shrug it off onto durf somehow.

The post counter doesn't mean all that much because it has reset like two or three times since I've been here...least that I remember...

    It's just for fun.

You reconize names so it's not that big of a deal. Between the OTF and OT threads in most boards, it's not uncommon to see high post counts

I rather like the post counts, but only for the sole fact that if you are new to a board, people with a high post count are much more likely to have the answers you seek. And they are more likely to be the first people to welcome you.

people only post crap when they are nearing a certain number.

usually 100, 500, 666, 1000 (ect) or so it seems.

but most of the time, although you realize your post count, usally dont think of it.

The post counts don't bother me. Like AJ said, when you are new people with high post counts have the answer you want to know. If they went, it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but If we could vote on them I would vote to keep them.

In my experience, post counts are pretty useful from an administrative standpoint. Registration dates don't really tell the whole story. If you have, say, two rules infractions involving a poster with 2500 posts, and two infractions from a poster with 13 posts, you're probably going to solve the two problems differently.

There's a vague, unwritten problems to posts ratio below which the behavior is unacceptable and above which a more lenient treatment may be justified due to the fact that this person has been around longer and presumably needs less direction to come into rules compliance. A higher post count also tends to reflect a stronger desire to stay part of the board, and thus the threat of a banning is usually enough of a motivator that the actual ban can be reduced to a simple warning and have the same effect on stabilizing the conflict.

Mods can't really read everything and in some cases may not actually have much direct knowledge of a person's reputation aside from that poster's alerts to posts ratio, which generally is a good indicator of that person's disruptiveness.

You could also just check the Join Date...

You can't exactly tell who's new and who isn't only by the post count... Elly's only got 922, Freet 795 and Rushter 298, but I wouldn't exactly point and laugh at them and call them n00bz0rs... I fear the stiletto heels of +6 banning much too much for that... (Did I get that +6 right? I can never remember the damn thing...)

That's the difference between you and me SCG. You fear them, I  them.
