No-cut programs

The last no-cut school in my region has decided to begin to cut students from some team sports. Below are links to affermitive and negative reactions.

I am glad that they have begun to cut students from some sports. I am a better student than most of my class, and I abhor being in classes with people that hold me back. I also play a sport, volleyball, but we don't attract enough players to hold tryouts, so cuts don't really apply to that. But when it comes to academics, being in lower classes is basically cutting yourself (or your parents or counselor) from higher classes.

Being an academically advanced student isn't easy when mixed with academically hindered students. I know this. I beleive the same goes for sports. The best players are held back by large teams. Coaches don't get enough time then to work with single players as much.

Don't get me wrong, I beleive everyone should have an oppertunity in sports. But that's what club sports are for, the ones sponsored outside of school. I played soccer for a club. I was cut from the best teams each time. But I still got to play. That's what mattered.

Ok, let the discussion begin.

i thought this is what varsity teams were for, a spot for the better athletes to be put into so they can continue to work on their game.

Hmm so let me get this correctly...their kids getting cutted from the team isn't sitting right? Sounds like over the tops sports parents.

Blech, parents. If someone gets cut from a team, they should go home, practice everyday, and try out nex year. If they don't want to do this, then they don't need deserve to be on the team.

I say let anyone play. It's highschool sports, it doesn't really matter if your team sucks. If you want a great team start a club and hold tryouts. The school is funded by everyone so everyone should be able to play. Clubs can be funded individually so they can be more selective.

But dantose, schools also make some money from their sports. If they create a mediocre team, they won't get the money they'd get if they had a good team. And a good sports team creates exposure for a school. If you've got a big football fan in the area, he might be more likely to vote for the next school levy if the school has a good team. If everything the school does looks like a failure, the public isn't really going to want to support it.

So have a good team (varsity/JV) and then have club sports, which are FFA. Who cares?
Because that gets expensive. I remember my 7th grade year in junior high the school didn't get its levy passed so they had to make all junior high sports pay to play. If I recall it was like 90 bucks per student that wanted to play a sport.

1. Good Teams make schools money
2. If teams have 50 people on them, everyone will play less, making the people who actually are good enough to play at the next level less likely to get a chance to because of less playing time.
3. Not cutting on just sports is unfair because it would be like saying that there would be no cuts getting into honor society, just as smart kids have their own area, athletic kids get theirs.

If you get cut from school just go play babe ruth or some other kind of league like pop warner or something. I hope you know what these are and they aren't just local around here.
