No Baal Runs!!!

Re: No Baal Runs!!!

Thanks for the blow by blow. Anyway.
You're welcome.

It's not at the same time (though maybe it is). It's simply all possible at once. That I can enter the game and have a fun or boring experience. That randomized gameplay might not always be fun and that prescripted gameplay (your example would be a Baal run, I think) might not always be boring.

Both are possible in every instance/instant of gameplay.
Ah, I see what you are saying. You're saying that it is possible that, at one occasion, Baal runs would be fun, while on another it would be boring, and the same holds true for a Randomized System. This is most likely true.

However, my argument would simply be that a Randomized System holds less opportunity for boredom. I do not deny that any and all systems can, indeed, become boring, or can have occassions of boredom; however, I believe that a Randomized Quest System simply contains in it opportunity for far less then a Baal Run does.

Good thing D2 is more than just Baal runs.

Like when you run Lower Kurast for the super chests or the Countess or the Forge for runes. Or Nihl and the Summoner for keys. Or Meph/Andy and the Pits/Ancient Tunnels for some good, old fashioned MF'ing. Or when you self-rush in hardcore chant games. Or when you hit up Frigid Highlands for the two local super uniques. Or when you explore the Plains of Despair to find Izzy and get the ever living crap kicked out of you by the gloams. Or when you make the Charsi quest or socket quest mean something worthwhile in terms of that ever-invigorating invention, the Horardric Cube. Or when, thanks to Anya, you put your name on the gear you're most proud of because the game is yours, and it's always and ever just what you've made it.

I agree baal runs are well boring but fun. my suggestion to eliminate this problem them are gonna be tough. First, timer on how long you have playing (not camping) but actually playing the game. Second, a monster kill timer. (a time to just how many monster, demons, bosses and quests), u have actually done in the amount of time u have been playing. with just these two tactics added to the mf and exp u gain per kill would probably make this problem better, but, also since no one wants to hear it a way to figure it all out with the party You are in would be great. Oh so many ideas in my head. But thats just 2 or 3 so have at them or attack them whatever.

While I won't disagree that there is certainly a handful of things that can be done in Diablo 2, I'm of the opinion that there is only one thing that actually does happen. I don't see many games made that say "Lower Kurast Run" but I see plenty that say "Baal Run".

Of course people run single player games for Runes, but frankly you're just replacing one "Baal Run" with another in that scenario, just one provides runes and the other provides loot and experience. And, of course, to see any true gains in all of those departments, you have to run those encounters ceaselessly, which runs counter to what I'm talking about.

The bottom line is this. You are saying that "Baal Runs" can provide fun. I am saying that "Randomized Quest Encounters" can provide more for a longer period of time, and reward players for doing it.

And finally, if you have fun repeatedly grinding on one of a handful of encounters, good for you. I don't actually mean that sarcastically, I mean I am happy for you. You have found something that you love to do, and it is fun for you. Great. It is the death of fun for me, and a lot of other people, and if Diablo 3 is basically just more "Baal Runs", people are going to really wonder why the game was made at all.
