    NFL picks: week 8

The Raiders finally won their first game of the year after beating the Cards, who themselves were probably still emotionally hungover from the loss against the Bears. Denny Green fired (later "reassigned") his offensive coordinator a week before the game, which made him the second of three coaches to pin a struggling offense on his OC (Billick and Crennel are the others). In related news, the Cowboys are throwing their lot with Tony Romo in the hopes that he can provide a spark for their own offense. And they probably won't be the last team to bench their opening week QB in the hopes of putting some points on the board.

Last week was a pretty rough one for everybody, but Xoranix, ghostee, and dirkdig managed to come out on top at 8-5. Overall, there's a four-way split at the top between Xoranix, jdawg, Ash, and myself. In the percentage race, ghostee claims top dog status. Last week Lostprophet was out of 11 for not picking winners in the Steelers/Falcons and Cards/Raiders games.

    Last week's results:

    Week 8 picks:
Arizona Cardinals at Green Bay Packers
    Atlanta Falcons at Cincinnati Bengals
Baltimore Ravens at New Orleans Saints
    Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans
    Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles
Seattle Seahawks at Kansas City Chiefs
San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at N.Y. Giants
St. Louis Rams at San Diego Chargers
    Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos
    N.Y. Jets at Cleveland Browns
    Pittsburgh Steelers at Oakland Raiders
    Dallas Cowboys at Carolina Panthers
New England Patriots at Minnesota Vikings

Some big games this week, with the Falcons/Bengals, Ravens/Saints, Rams/Bolts, and Pats/Vikes looking like great games. But the biggie of the week is the Colts/Broncos. One of the league's biggest offenses versus the league's stingiest defense. What a great, great match-up.

    Good luck everyone!

Let me see if I understand this correctly - you pick who's going to win out of the two teams and the number above is the number of times you're right?

If that's the case then that sounds about right - people are generally getting about 60%, which is to say no better than chance except the fact that relative skill levels mean that certain contests have (mostly) obvious outcomes.

Oops. It's probably for the best, as I seem to recall in my mind picking the two losing teams.

Arizona Cardinals at Green Bay Packers
    Atlanta Falcons at Cincinnati Bengals
Baltimore Ravens at New Orleans Saints (Must... stop... picking... homer team...)
    Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans
    Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles
Seattle Seahawks at Kansas City Chiefs
San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at N.Y. Giants
St. Louis Rams at San Diego Chargers
    Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos
    N.Y. Jets at Cleveland Browns
    Pittsburgh Steelers at Oakland Raiders
    Dallas Cowboys at Carolina Panthers
New England Patriots at Minnesota Vikings

    Like ripping off a band-aid.

If it was as easy as picking the best team, we would all be in the 90-100% range. Upsets are all over the place this year.

I know I did a lot better last year.

I think the winners finished around 72% or so last year.

    Them's pretty good odds.

    I like it

I haven't seen an NFL game for years and I have no idea which teams are the best and which are the worst at present. Other than tennis it's the only sport I enjoy watching but we don't get it in the UK (unless you pay premium for it :undecided: )

Chiefs backup but now starting QB Damon Huard was injured in practice. He may or may not play.

If he doesn't it would be the chiefs 3rd stringer out there so if you want to change your picks, now is the time.
