Newbies Look Here Please

Hello, this post is geared towards the players that have just started playing DiabloII. I just want to point out that I feel the game is most enjoyable if you play your first characters without using the guides, suggested skills, or anything like that. Just play with putting your own points in whatever skills you want and dont worry about being the best character. Once you get a feel for the game you can make a better character that will survive in the higher difficulties. But I strongly recommend playing just without help at first because it really makes the game a lot more fun than rushing right in and trying to be the best.

Also, if you really like single player or can only single player, I suggest the Single Player Forum. You can get better advice geared towards single player and just general help/guides that are better for single player people than other ones oriented towards online play.

I completely agree. My first char was a firewall/meteor sorc back in late 1.09. I had no idea firewall was such a lethal skill!

However, I ended up geting frustrated with having to use mana pots all the time in the beginning, so end-game I ended up with around 1k mana and 300 life.

None the less, I still had a ton of fun discovering cows, and the occasional set or unique item that dropped with my 0% MF was like godsend.

Have fun.

I played my first years not knowing about this place... and beat the game in hell in SP mode... so was very ready before I read any guides or anything...

Plus trust me... its much more fun doing somethign unique.

I'm goning to agree. When I first started with my barb, I randomly wore whatever I found on the ground, and I placed points everywhere regardless of what skills, ect. And to be honest, its when I had the most fun. As soon as people started telling me I sucked...and I found out I did, thats when the game began it's downward spiral to suckiness...because I was always questing for that next best item.

I'll definitely second that! Not knowing what items are good and what aren't makes the game immeasurably more fun. I had the same experience as Rebirth.. Hell, I got myself addicted to Methadone throughout high school and managed to kick that, but still can't get away from the hunt for the next super-rune. That's just a wickedly inappropriate way for a game to getcha.

If you CAN play battle.net, even when starting out, do.. Play some private and whatnot, and build the super-sucky char that we all start with. But if it's on B.net, then you can show your friends how much improvement you make eventually!

Man. I sure do hate this game.. Oh well, off I go to try to get a couple Ber runes!

This is so true...

I bought DII and LOD at the same time and started out with a Barb and an assasin. And actually ended up killing Baal and his minions with a Bardiche (with my Barb), which I found in Act 1 .
I just kept the Bardiche since I thought it was the coolest looking weapon in the game!

Same with my Assasin, she used a Magical Crossbow (20% Incr Attack Speed) with a flawless ruby socketed in it all through act 4 and 5. It takes a LONG time to actually kill everything, but the satisfaction you'll get after killing D and Baal......unmeasurable :)

When I got a DSL internet connection 2 1/2 years ago I wanted to try Battle.net......I never even new which uniques there were, and I was noobalicious! However now I think back to my time of complete DII ignorance....and I dare to say, being a Noob is a bless.

Since you don't know what ur missing, if you don't know what's out there :)

Grtz,

I remember when I first started to play Diablo II, I used a Necromancer. Then I got frustrated and didn't play for like a year because I put all my points in the wrong places and used him like a melee char hitting monsters with wands instead of a caster lol. I'm still a newb but I know what is and definately isn't going to work now!

Also, You have a ready-made mule for all that extra junk that's too good to sell and too low to use.
You learn a lot quicker getting smacked down on occasion than you do just cruising through.

Haha my first character was an axe Barb cause i thought axes were the coolest. I looked at the axes and saw i didn't need any dex for them so all I did was pump strength. When I couldn't hit a Fallen in hell I almost cried then restarted.
