Newb Question

Hey all,

I know this is a question that should probably be posted in the Trade forums, but on a whole I find the majority of people here a little more helpful.

Anyway, me and a friend are just playing Diablo casually right now, leveling up our Sorcs on Hardcore. We both want to see how high we can get in the ladder just taking our time enjoying ourselves. I have already had to decline a level one amazon I helped who turned out he had a level 75 sorc who thought he would be nice and rush me past Ancients. But anyway...

Last night I traded with a sorc (we are on U.S West) and I was wondering if maybe I traded for duped items. Now I am totally unaware of what trades are worth, and just excepted this guy on what he gave me.

Anyway, he was after Jewels of Carnage +15. Turned out I actually had one that dropped that was +20. I said hey you know I have this what would you offer (expecting a couple of runes or something)

And anyway, he dropped an Unid Death Mask and Decapitator in the trade. I jumped at it and excepted of course...

Now was this a fair trade? Should I be keeping all those jewels of carnage I be finding? I have another one, and am wondering what I should do/trade for.

I am of course planning to start up a dueler later on and will possibly keep some jewels for him...

Like I said, sorry for posting this here but I am hoping that someone can help me.

BTW I dont really want the axe and would gladly trade that for something. (Fair trades of course. )

lets just say, in my close to 3 years of playing, i have not found a carbuncle jewel of carnage that rolled both perfect mods (+5 on carbuncle and +15 on carnage). the best i found was a +18.

and i have found, hmm, maybe 100 or so decapitators, and approximately that many death masks? these estimates are probably a little low (i mfed 24/7 during the first few months of play)

To cut to the point: You got ripped.

I'm not sure about trade values on those jewels on the new ladder, but they would be worth a ton (assuming this is lvl 18 req). Blackhorn's and decapitator aren't typically used for end-game gear, and as such are things people would gladly trade away for anything remotely end-game, such as the +20 (which is quite nice on any properly geared dueler).

If you held out and got more offers, I'm sure you would see some much higher offers (last ladder you could probably get at least shako for this, of course thats toward the end of the ladder, which means you probably wouldn't get it at this point in this ladder).

Don't get too upset however. The validity of the trade center's around your char's needs, especially since you seem to be doing this relatively untwinked and questing yourself through. If that death mask serves some special purpose for your char, then be happy with it.

This is really funny because we have hocked some stuff that is probably worth quite a bit...

The jewel was a level 18 requirement as well btw. I think I am going to be a little bit more careful now as well.

Anyway, makes me wonder what the +15 jewel is worth.

But ultimately yeah, I dont feel that bad, because we are just questing and doing it all ourselves...we have a strict "no mule" policy letting the items we dont need dissappear into the coffers of the merchants we sell to.

Though we bend the rules and trade with people in games that we are in.

Thanks for all the feedback guys anyway, will keep my eyes open for stuff in the future.

Carnages, lvl 15 are normally in the 15 Range and getting a 20 is very rare. You could of gotten a better trade as, yes a Tals mask however very nice to have does drop a lot and the Decap, even though it is a big hitter is such a slow weapon I dont know if anyone uses it on any build anymore.

Tradeable things you may throw away every day:

lvl 8 Max damage jewels 8max and up, anything over 9 is a Wraith of Carbuncle and is pretty rare expecually if it stays low enuff to stay lvl 9.
14-15 max Carnages are very popular for lvl 15+ duelers and PKs and like we said that 20 is very uncommon. We will find out very soon if who you traded with is legit because that is the type of item a Duper would dupe a lot of!!! That is how good it is.

Life charms, smalls 9-10 lvl 14
Life charms 14-15 lvl 17
Reglar jewels with second mods like IAS, Strength, Max or Min as long as lvl 27 and good ed are worth a lot. Reglar is 30 max %ED down to around 21 I think. The low end isnt worht anyhting unless it has a BIG second mod, the high end can be tradeable even with no mod.

there are many more things to list but i will stop. I suggest you spend a little time each day or two looking at the trade forum. Look at all those West trades and see what things are going for. You cna look at East also, but each tend to have different values for things and normally West is higher priced from what i have seen.

Frankly, to some illegit botting dueler you might of damn near equpied two characters for that jewel! dont kick yourself for it, but now you know and you can further capitalize on duelers and PKs needs in the future from what you have learned!

Unfortunatly, you sure did get ripped off, that jewel is FANTASTIC.

Whoever said you couldent get a shako for that jewel at this point in the ladder is out of their mind If I had nothing but a shako, I would give it for that jewel. Basically, That jewel is so rare/useful that it will fetch any price you want.

Where did you find it by the way?

Yep, dam impressive jewel. As good as it gets as far as non-rare jewels go.
It's just a shame u posted here after you traded rather than before. No need to kick yourself over it though, everybody makes bad trades every now and then, most of the time unaware it's happening.

Well, I suppose that person would be me. I agree he could easily get shako+ under normal conditions, I just haven't done any trading so far this ladder, I'm a little out of it value-wise. Its true though that any real lld guy would probably trade his best items, even to the point of hurting his mf capabilities, just to secure such a rare gem for later use.

Oh, and being quite the lld freak I am, I would trade everything up to my last cracked sash for that jewel. Just to shove it in a wizspike and let the mh'ers call me n00b. Such fun, such fun...

Not sure :scratch: where I found the items...one of two places.

Last night started at the river of flame and then did Diablo and just did Bloodies for the rest of the evening. Because we were killing so quick (well to us )
