Newb building a Sorceress:

Alright, I am in the early stages of a Sorceress build for myself. I wanted to have a build that would be both unique and effective. I do not want to make one of your standard builds you read about on these forums.

I want my Sorceress to have attacks from 2 different elemental trees.

I know my first element will be fire. I want to use the skills Inferno, Warmth, and eventually Fire Mastery. And that's it! Inferno looks really cool, and actually synergizes with the super-useful skill Warmth! Fire Mastery is for way down the road, I'm really not worried about it yet.

I also have decided to put 1 point into Telekinesis, 1 into Teleport, and probably only 1 into Static (it looks really useful, but I've never tried it myself).

I don't know if I want to specialize in cold or electricity. I know each has it's advantages and disadvantages.

Any and all help in the decision making of my other element is appreciated. I'm not sure which way to go, although I have read about many builds that specialize in fire and ice spells.

I really like the idea of having a maximized Warmth because it might even allow me to use little (or none!) attribute points in Energy (although I'll probably add some, just so I'm not running out often early on).

Inferno does look cool, but my understanding is that it's bugged to do only 1/2 of its listed damage.

If you choose to go ahead, I would use Frozen Orb as an alternate attack, with enough in Cold Mastery to hit level 17 after plus skills from items.

Re: Newb building a Sorceress:

better off with enchant, if you want something that synergizes with warmth IMO...

pretty original skills that few use:

-hydra, can be very effective, but you need investments (and you can only allow yourself frozen orb after that)

-fire wall, it "synergizes" with only fire mastery, so not much investments, you free up many points for another skill

-glacial spike... far overshadowed in terms of damage by anything else, but it's not bad as an original skill, actually

-charged bolt?... not all that unique, but not all that common either...

It is generally unnecessary to put points in energy since it is possible to get plenty of mana from items. Maxed Warmth does you very little good if you have a small mana pool; warmth increases your regen rate, which is based on your mana pool. Someone with 500 mana regenerates more mana per second than one with 50 mana. So it is still important to have at least 200 mana after items. At later levels, it is very easy to get 200 mana from items alone, though.

When doing the early leveling, equip +mana gear and keep/cube all of the sapphires you find to put in socketed armor and helm. You'll also have to drink down potions too, but it'll make the character better in the long run.

The point is that it gives me 13% more Inferno damage per level of Warmth! That's a pretty darn high synergy!

Note Inferno is a bugged skill and doesn't do the damage listed. I think it is actually half the listed damage, but not sure about that.

Which I guess is exactly what Noodle said earlier.

lvl 20 Inferno with +15 fire skills, lvl 20 (35) Fire Mastery and lvl 20(35) Warmth will give you 1955 damage per second. Now divide it by 2 because of a bug. 977 average damage PER SECOND.

Unsynergized (well, with 1pt in Fire bolt) lvl 7 (22) Fireball with lvl 20 (35) Fire mastery does 1015 average damage PER CAST (you can cast more of them in one second). It can even put the monsters in hit recovery.

Inferno isn't able to kill a single monster in hell difficulty.

Re: Newb building a Sorceress:

do the fire traps of an assassin have the same bug? (and does the inferno bug also apply to monsters and mercs?)

i've also heard that arctic blast is bugged so it does less than listed damage..

I don't think so. I used fire trapper myself, good damage through normal, average damage in NM, very low damage in hell :(
