New to D2 and Amazons

Hello all, I just picked up the game a few hours ago and have been reading up on the forums and decided I want to try to play as an Amazon.

The problem I'm having is deciding what kind of Amazon I want to be, I think I want to use a spear for one. I'm obviously starting with nothing so I was wondering what a good starting Amazon build would be? I looked through the sticky at the top at all of the builds and to be honest they confuse me a little bit lol. Guess I don't understand all of the lingo yet but hopefully it will come to me.

Thanks for any help/advice you can give me!

It will come to you in time. Probably not much time either.

First zon to play, with no gear would be a lightning zon. Check this guide over and look over the skill tree. It is really pretty simple. Maybe a hybrid, which would be a lightning zon with a set of javelins and a nice bow on switch. That would be a fun mix to be able to really see what a zon is all about.

If this is your first time you play. Just go and explore the game. Do what you think is good, look at the nice grafics and just have fun. You'll hit the big wall in hell, however you'll learn from it and get a feeling for the game. Everyone can follow a guide, though feeling for the game comes by exploring.
Perfect builds can come later, though you can never go through the game again for the first time.

After that, lightning or cold amazons or lightning/cold or lightning/poison are probably the best builds to start.

Nase hit it on the head. I remember the first time I played. I played a barb and got killed outside the rogue encampment. Then when I respawned I ran bach out and saw my body laying there. I thought it was eird and just kept running on.

The first time with Big D was a very nerve wracking but fun time. First time...huh. Brings back all kinds of memories.

If you need some in-game help I'd be more than willing to walk you through things with my zon. Give you an idea of gear/abilities. I'd even go as far as toss a few starter items your way just to make the story go more smoothly.

No one likes a game where they die often, right? Any hoo. If you play on USEast Ladder just added my account by typing this into a chat window while logged on: /f a MrOzio

Hope to see you online!

spear is extremely fun. amazon is what i like to consider "weapon" dependent (to to be confused with "gear" dependent). (as with most warrior wacker type class i guess) in that... once you decide to use bow/spear/javalin, your skill set path is pretty much set for you.

how so? well, simple. if you check your skill tabs, once you decide that you want to use a spear, just pick the skills that has a lot to do with spears

for example, you would completely ignore the "bow skill tab", and since javalin and spear tab are together, I would just be careful not to put points into javalin skill instead of spear skill. also, you also might want to save up your points for higher level skills. just look down on the skill tab to find all those wonderful spear skills that you can't quite click yet. don't invest too much skill points into the early clickable skills, as they are useful now, but less useful later. and since the game is designed with a finite amount of skills (rather than giving you enough points to fill maximize every single skill) you might want to save some points until you are high level enough to use those high level skills (and have enough points to maximize them)

as for the passive tree, I would save up skill points rather than investing in them for now. early on, you want to kill monsters as fast as possible and the passive trees really don't help you that much. (eventually they will, as you reach higher difficulty, all those defensive skills become highly useful)

basically, you just want to be able to do as much damage as possible now.

that's the advice i would give now. when you are more familiar with the game and understand all the "lingos", we welcome you back for a more detail analysis of everything amazon that you would love to know

(including where they live, what's their phone number, what's their exact bra size, why are they blonde, etc etc)

what really? we don't know all that? well, maybe i know something you guys don't then... :wink3:
