New to Amazons. Help Please?

Okay, I'm starting a game with some goons once the ladder restarts. I'm playing a Bowazon, hopefully, although I've never played one. I've only played assassins (one in 1.08, one in the dying days of 1.10), so Bowazons are extremely foreign territory to me.

I'm trying to build something that doesn't rely on one uber-item or anything. I've been looking over skills, and I was thinking

Valkyrie Maxed
Magic Arrow Maxed
Strafe Maxed

I just don't know if MA is still as viable as I heard it once was. I haven't found much information on 1.11 character changes. What would you recommend to someone who hasn't played a Bowazon before? Are Bowazons even viable? Should I go Javazon? Thanks for any help.

Hmm, starting a pure bowazon, first time, and with no items at new ladder can be very tough.

I would tell you to start as a Javazon, maybe a Hybrid. Max Strafe, Max Lightning Fury, get a good Valkyrie and Pierce and you'll have a very solid character who can deal with mostly anything she meets. Use the bow with socketed gems in normal mode; once you hit Level 30, max LF and use it all the way to Hell. The bow switch comes back into play when you start meeting the Lightning Immunes. A Might mercenary is recommended to help your bow damage.

You'll find yourself using Lightning Fury much more than Strafe until you find a nice bow. LF can kill well even with crappy Javelins, and an armor socketed with Tir runes (+2 Mana per kill) will keep your Mana coming up.

If you still insist on making a pure Bowazon, I'd tell you not to max Magic Arrow - use the points to max Penetrate, and add the resat to Critical and maybe Pierce. Be prepared though for a big challenge - your kill rate will not be good until you get your hands on a good bow.

Thanks, duder. When I was checking out the playing groups over on SA, I noticed that they were pretty imbalanced in terms of variety. My group has three meteorb sorcs and two Hammerdins. I decided to just switch to a different group and play a Chainorb Sorc since they didn't have any Sorcs. But I will DEFINATLY keep your info in mind.

If you want some variety, a pure Lightning Javazon may be what you are looking for... Lightning Fury and Charged Strike are a nasty combination and will MELT down anything non immune specially if you max all synergies. She's an extremely powerful character and rivals a CL Sorc.

Well when ladder resets; you can try to eventually get an infinity on the new ladder (good luck with that) for your merc; it breaks most light immunes I think even souls. Can you say Yay lightning?
