Hello to everybody.

My name is Topi Linkala and I live in Helsinki, Finland. I'm 43 year old unemployed systems analyst and played LoD on and off couple of years.

Now that I'm unemployed I have more time to play and I'm close to finish my first time. I play mainly solo but I play in European Battle.net in ladder.

I do all the quest first time solo, but once in a while help others in if they want it. I use couple of mules to store gems and runes.

The reason why I play solo is that I'm not fast enough so I never get to get anything major in multiplayer games.

I've never defeated Baal (I've actually never even seen Baal), but my existing necro might do it. The reason for that is that I abandon my characters if they die. So even that I cannot yet create true HC characters I'm playing like I'd have a HC character. I think that this decision was influenced by me being an old time nethacker. When I finish first time I'll change to true HC characters.

Alright easy guys I'm just kidding. Actually I'm 46 years old. It's nice to have another guy closer to my age for a change.

Welcome to the forum linkato1. If you need any help with some items let me know. Us older guys have to stick together. We can't let these youngsters push us around.

Greetings! Always good to see yet another computer professional in this forum. :)

If you mostly play solo anyway, you might consider playing Single Player (which most, if not all, other members of this forum do.) It has some distinct advantages, like the "/players #" command, which allows you to emulate a full B-Net game for monster HP and experience. It makes levelling go much faster!

Also, don't think that SP necessarily means "playing alone"; many forum members play together in multiplayer (MP) games. The chief difference between this and B-Net is that someone other than Blizzard is hosting the game, and you don't have to deal with the low mentality exhibited by that vocal minority (?) on B-Net.

Anyway, welcome to the friendliest forum I have ever participated in!

Cheers!

Hi there, Linkato1. Welcome to out playground.

Fair warning: SPF participation has been known to severely decrease actual playing time.

Be sure to read the FAQs and rules, be uber-nice to the elite uniques and DO NOT feed the squid (though it's ok to have a beer and a game of pool with Lucy).

And when you're done with your homework, join us for a drink at the EMB. :buddies:

Thanks, but call me Topi.

I've used internet and before that usenet so my modus operandi today is always first read the FAQ(s), lurk for a while and then join the ruckus.

I've got a SP barbarian in act V start and he's using /players 8. I've got a necro in European ladder going into the Crystalline Passage solo (or not, when you have a mercenary, a golem and ten skeletons it's not lonely).

Cannot say which one playes better. The necro ran several times through Chaos Sanctuary to gain levels but that was so fast that it didn't get boring.

THe barbarian uses ATMA the necro has couple of mules to store stuff.
