New guy

Aye, well I started playing Diablo II again...been some years since I last played so I've well forgotten most everything. Right now I have a level 23 Fire Druid, with a number of different charms. Have been putting most of my skill points into Fissure until I can level up and get the next teir of skills.

I do some damage, but don't know a lot about the conduct of open play...usually I just sit off by myself and run around killing things for experience right now. So really I'm just wondering if there is a certain conduct when you are teamed up with some other players as well as some sort of glossary of the terms used in open play. Also is there a way I can get my character so it will show up here so everyone can help me out better with my build?:help:

First of all, welcome!

By "open play" do you mean you play on Open Battle.net?
Yea, on servers that other people created or a server I started. I usually jump in a game and kind of feel ousted cause I don't understand what they are saying on the server because I don't understand the terms used in Diablo II.

Re: New guy

I'm not sure If we do anything here on the forums with Open Bnet. It's supposed to be full of hacks and whatnot and that's not our cup of tea. I vouch on the Closed Bnet being more ejoyable. Furthermore, you can than make use of the trade forums available.

But it's really just what flows your boat.

What's the difference? I'm not even sure what closed versus open is...I'm really, really new.:propeller:

Well basically open Bnet allows characters made in single player to play together, but it is not monitored by Blizzard, so everyone uses all sorts of hacks and whathaveyou.

Closed Bnet is better in a sense almost 99% of the players are legit(the other 1% are bots), and we have a market and currency set so that the community flourishes.

Oh, I don't play single player. My character is on USEast, and it says he is a Ladder character. So am in open or closed Bnet?

Instead of creating or joining a server in the main window, would I choose ladder instead?

Also, thanks for the help so far!

Oh then your playing closed bnet.

I do not understand your second question though:scratchchin:

Re: New guy

I don't quite get your question either. On Ladder you're playing on servers monitored by Bnet. There is an option to play Ladder (is a reset economy and a fresh rush to lvl 99 i.e. the ladder to 99) or Non Ladder (NL) where everything gained on the ladder is dumped whenever the Ladder resets.
You don't get to choose which server you play on, but you can check out which server it is, if you want to.

Before I create or jump in a game there is a ladder button below the other buttons, not quite sure what it does as I just get put into a room with what looks like the server list but it just has a bunch of names and goes by class.

It's for showcasing the top level players for ladder.
