Ok so I havnt played this game in about 8 years. Well I randomly starting thinking about it and didnt want to wait till diablo 3. So I dug up my old diablo ii and expac discs. Installed both didnt work. Got a "Unhandled Exception: Access_Violation (c0000005)" code. well from all the reading ive done its a general code generally fixed when installing the newest patch. Well wrong. I have had the same error since I first installed LOD. I could play diablo 2 non expec just fine but when i installed lod and the expac it gave me the error.

I have done just about everything I have seen on every site. if someone can get me a fix i will pay them rather in game. via paypal ect... I cant promise you it will be alot but 10$ about.

Things I have tried to do to fix it;
Made a fix.bat file (taskkill /F /IM Explorer.exe, DiabloII.exe,start explorer.exe, exit)

Went to the diablo ii folder changed compatibility to xp sp2, changed to 256 colors, also disabled composition.

Changed resolution to 800x600 and to 16 bit colors.

tried running in windows mode.

Well I think thats it.

for sure. I will check it out. ive been just posting on a bunch of forums trying to get this fixed. i have a desire to play and am not being granted it.

Have you tried changing from direct draw 3d to 2d?

C: \Program Files\Diablo II\D2VidTst.exe – run this and switch to direct draw 2d (no space between colon and backslash, had to do that to prevent a "smiley")

Also try running as administrator, don't know if that will affect that particular error though.

You can also try downloading a digital copy of D2 online. How you do it is create a Battle.net account and register your Diablo cd-key. I am not sure if this could help your problem but it couldn't hurt.
