Need Sorceress and Baal advice

Well, following the advice of people on this forum. I have made my all my sorceresses max block since the early days of 1.09. However, upon reaching hell and finally getting access to some top Baal runs. I notice that almost every high ladder sorceress is no block.

The majority of them has setups that focus on high FCR and FHR (both very important) with hoto/spirit. Now without whistan/SS it's much easier to hit the 105 FCR breakpoint and get super high FHR. But why would they not use block while going Baaling? Is there something that I am missing?

Also, why the hell are all the top ladder sorceresses fire sorcs? Is it because they kill Baal incredibly fast with conviction?

Yah, that's what I thought too...I mean, I have died to Maulers while teleing to meph let alone Baal.

But they can't all be stupid right? There has to be some reason. I mean the 2 guys I talk to probably played 9+hours of D2 a day since ladder reset. They should at least get some credibility.

The majority of them also probably maphack, allowing them to dodge monsters, and not have to tele thru as many. Sitting in the back of baal runs with BO and oak and whatnot, you don't need block if you have tanks at the throne. That is probably why.

Maphack + outside BO + tons of FCR = faster runs (i.e. faster exp) with not too much risk.

Take away any one of those factors and you're playing with fire. I'd rather have max block and 63%FCR than no block and 105%FCR.

You can get good FHR, 105 and max block if you want, it takes some specific stuff but doable.

My Fire Tele sorc from S2 was just that, I used Whitstans + Wizzy on switch, no MF to speak of with that Fire Wand for + skills on swap for more punch once I got there. I did though require BO with none of my own..... I got soooooooo much crap from Baal drops doing that I ended up bored as hell and stopped playing. Later I did add one of those Oak rings later which helped.

Building up good sorcs requires effort......charm work, gambling, farming. It doesnt take the uber gear to do it but you just have to accumulate/craft up some things and luck/effort are your friends.

Craft Large charms and hope for a nice FHR+Life, or those big Life/Mana ones, or even the +skills + good stuff. Gable rings or craft them looking for FCR+good stuff. Gamble Belts/boots early......lvl 24-4x or so IIRC, good place to get really nice belts and boots. Find a good multi stat belt with life+FHR+ and it can help a great deal and boots can rock also.

Craft up those small charms also......trade off the LLD ones to those guys for other good stuff you may need even if its just another arm full of gems.

Sounds like it takes forever, but really its all about effort to pick up the crap and do it. Might go a few days getting nothing but crap and then have a great day or two rolling charms and be set!


If your not all about non-stop months and months to race the ladder then make two sorcs.....one farmer and one runner. Run the Farmer and attain the gear while you raise up the runner...I did this as i prefer Blizz for farming over Fire and I dont wish to risk my runners on solo farming runs, you can remake a farmer in no time but a runner is different.

Most of them will also be using one of those suped up clients with chicken hacks and the like.. people who use that tend to play like its softcore. If you go to softcore you will be hard pressed to find a sorc with max block. Plus they probly dont touch hell without self boing.

As for the fire sorcs.. maybe because less people are afraid of getting tppked by them(cus of the way fire mastery works as appose to cold mastery) so they get more games.
