Need Help with my throw barb build

Ok i read the throw barb faq on this site and its very helpful. I never made a throw barb ever or used these throw weapons before and my questions are....

Do you always have to repair your weapons to refill your weapons. I got gimmershards 2 of em a friend gave to me he have all types of barbs and he dont use his throw barb anymore but i have no other weapons to use till then. Right now he is lv20 with duel throw spears and on weapon slot2 i have 2 throw daggers but they run out so fast. Am i missing something here throwing is hella fun but i run out so fast gotta always tp back and forth.

Also wondering what are some other good throw weapons i can get until i can use gimmershards and any other tips you can give me to play a throw barb. Thanks in advance you can Private msg me if that makes answering my question easier.

If you're maxing double swing for the damage bonus to double throw, then you can use ds to prevent having to repair your throwing weapons every 3 minutes. I also put a point in whatever mastery my throwing weapons are (axe or spear, both actually) to get a little dmg/ar/crit boost when I'm using double swing. Some of the high level throwing weapons (Lacerator, Gargoyle's Bite, Demon's Arch) replenish quantity over time, so when you get them it's not so bad.

As for what to use until you get to Glimmershreds (which don't replenish), I would take your highest lvl character to anya in hell, she sells throwing weapons. Check her inventory for cruel harpoons/winged harpoons (or some other high dmg prefix, grandmasters is no good because you can't use it until lvl 61 or so). Go back and forth through the red portal to reset her inventory, check again, rinse and repeat. You can use harpoons at lvl 25, and the cruel prefix at lvl 42 or 43. I usually try to get something ok for lvl 25 (savage harpoons or whatever) and 2 cruel harpoons for lvl 43, and at that point you will seriously lay waste to monsters. It takes a little time, but you willnot be disappointed with the results of slinging 2x cruel harpoons at lvl 43. :xgift:
I've found that using a char with low dex makes it easier to spot harpoons/winged poons at anya, because of the high dex requirements, they show up with a red background in anya's screen. Of course, it only saves a couple of seconds each time, so no biggie!

For other tips, it's hard to say without knowing your skill layout/planned gear, etc. Adding dex adds to throw damage as well as attackrating, so don't be afraid to get vit to about 100-120, str for gear (demons arch needs 127) and drop the rest into dex! Enjoy!

also look for specific item types with higher stack sizes, the two-edged throwing axes have a stack size of 130. it also helps if you have 2 or even three different weapons to use--keep one in your cube, and you can switch if you don't feel like going back to town

ok cool thanks for all the feedback. Right now im lv43 the build im following is the throw barb guide on this site.

The skills i plan on maxing are in this order

Throw mastery 20
Battle orders 20
Dbl Swing 20
Dbl throw 20

Then from there i will put points in nat res and some in shout maybe. The equipment i have are crappy most were giving to me from a good friend. I just started playing this game again like a week ago so most the stuff i have was giving to me from a friend.

The only equipment i have for my barb that im looking forward 2 are the 2gimmershards my friend gave me the rest i have to work on like my gloves, boots, ammy, the helm i will be using is tal rasha helm and armor is atma wall until i can get some better equipment. Right now im just doing baal runs in norm. I have 2 other characters i started also one is lv73 one is lv63 a sorc and a amazon both still in nm though so cant go to hell anya to buy those throw weapons your talking about. I will check out nm to see what they give.

Thanks for all the feedback any more info you can give me will be appriated :xsmile4:

Hi,

Just thought I'd give you a bit of info regarding my experience with a throw barb. I do not use my throw barb like a tank, he plays more like an amazon, avoiding melee combat. My throw barb is level 85 and a half currently, and has the following skill points:

20 Double Throw (I am finding the attack rating bonus useful)
20 Throw mastery
20 Double Swing (very useful until about Act 2 Hell for damage)
20 Shout (I prefer high defence over the high life of Battle Orders)
1 in leap attack (for mobility)
1 in each of the non-weapon masteries
1 in every skill in the warcry tree (I use taunt on ranged attackers to neutralise their attacks; I use warcry to stun large mobs, so I can leap attack to safety; I use grim ward to prevent melee attackers from hitting me)
The next 5 or so points will go to Find Item so that I can mf more effectively.

I am using two Warshrikes, with two Demon Arches and two Gimmershreds for backup against physical immunes and for when I run out of Warshrike ammo. Carrying three sets of throwing weapons is enough to last for a quest or two without running out of ammo. My Warshrikes are more than enough to last for a Baal run.

The Warshrikes are the best weapon I have tried, mainly because they are so fast, which gives me a good chance of casting life tap from the Dracul's Grasp gloves. This curse helps to keep my mercenary alive. My mercenary is an Act 2 'might' mercenary, whose aura gives me enough damage to kill in hell respectably.

The items I am using are:
Arreats with a 15% ias jewel (has very useful bonuses)
Arkaines Valor with a 15% ias jewel (also has good bonuses) or Crowcaw (for %ias, until someone stole it while I was muling it)
Razortail (for peirce and extra damage) or Nosferatu's Coil (for %ias)
War travellers (for extra damage)
Dracul's Grasp (for life tap and open wounds)
Metal Grid (for attack rating and resists)
Ravenfrost (for attack rating and 'cannot be frozen' bonuses)
Crafted safety ring (for attack rating and resistances)

Increased attack speed is very useful for my throw barbarian because his damage is pretty low (if you compare him to melee barbs).

Until I could use demon arch I used some imbued flying knives and hurlbats. If you are going to imbue, do not imbue javelin style weapons, because their stack size is too small to not become a nuisance.

All up, my throw barb has about 2,000 life with BO, and about 12,000 defence with Shout. He does about 3,500 maximum damage with Warshrikes and the might aura, and has an attack rating of almost 9,000.

Hope this post is useful (and not too long for all).

Forget what the above guy said - he doesn't have a bad setup, but there is better. I assume this is mainly for PvM (not terrible in PvP tho).

Endgame skills:
20 Throw Mastery
20 Double Swing
20 Shout
20 BO
+Nat Resists (to use max dmg charms)

Max throw mastery first, put about 10 points in Shout and BO, then max Double Swing, then finish off Shout and BO (shout first). Get a point in whirlwind (to get you out of nasty places) and a point in grim ward (for tough mobs). The real reason to max shout is for merc survival - your defense really doesn't matter.

Gear:
4x Gimmershreds
Arreats (ED jewel)
Highlord's Wrath
60 IAS armor (w/resists)
Raven Frost
Resist/AR/ML ring
Knockback/IAS/resist gloves
Razortail
Goreriders

For charms, enough to get your fire and lightning resists to 75, cold and poison can be around 45-50. The rest should be max damage charms.

120 STR
150 VIT
Rest in Dex

Like he said, use rare gambled throwing axes/knives until you can use the nice uniques. Once you can use Gimmershreds, grab 2 pairs of them (one on each weapon tab) and go at it with your might merc.

At around lvl 80, you'll be throwing just as fast as you could with warshrikes (4.5 frames I think). Doing 8k damage per axe, BEFORE deadly strike. Decent resists. ~1600 life. ~7000 defense - the defense won't matter, you should rarely be hit with howl (or grim ward), knockback and a decent merc.

Why the differences? Warshrike damage is terrible. Replenish quantity doesn't do crap - they'll replenish maybe about 10-20 by the time you run out. You don't need lifetap with the good damage - the 6% from arreats is plenty. You don't need lifetap, trust me, the 6% leech on arreats is plenty. You don't need any points in throw mastery, you'll have about 10k AR without it.

If you get into trouble - whirlwind away, plant a grim ward at the nearest corpse (or use the howl skill, if you're lvl 80+) and you'll be fine. Use taunt on gloams while dodging lightning, then howl or grim ward when they close in.

For physical immunes - you'll barely notice them. Gimmershreds as your weapons will take them out, no problem.

As for my exact build and stats:

lvl 84

4x Gimmershreds (208%-210%)
Arreats (6%LL, 40% ED jewel)
Highlord's Wrath
60 IAS / 30 resist all / +96 life archon (got lucky @ Anya)
Raven Frost
15% ResAll Ring w/30% FR, 133 AR, 5% ML
Knockback/IAS/PR/CR/Dex gloves
Razortail
Goreriders

6x 10 max GCs (with various mods - life, str, dex)
6x 3 max SCs (with various mods - FHR, life, str, dex)

150 Vit
120 Str
Rest in Dex

1850 Life
6300 Def
11000 AR
9500 damage per axe
4.5 frames (or 4, can't remember)
75% Resist All (when I finish with the rest of my points in natural resistances)

monsters are easy pickins between howl, knockback and my might merc tank
