need help figuring out battle.net

I've been playing single player since shortly after Christmas and just tried getting on battle.net last night for the first time.

First time I connected and made up an account I had to make a new character and log on with her.

Logged on again later and to my surprise all of a sudden I had my single player characters online.

Today I can't seem to get my single player characters on again, only the one I had created specifically for online play shows up when I connect.

Any ideas of what's going on?

you can player your single player characters online by clicking on "other online options" or something like that, i forget exactly what it's called. but they won't be able to play with or trade with bnet characters.

When your single player characters showed up online, that might have been open battle.net (hacks prevalent). The one you probably want is the regular battle.net button (on the screen d2 starts on). This is realm, where hacks are less prevalent.

yes. basically realm chars are stored on blizz servers so they can not be easily hacked. single players can easily be modified with various programs and can only be played online on open bnet.

Hey! Welcome to the forums and realm play!
I remember when I first started on the realms, what fun and frustration.

Some tips?

>Read some character guides.
>Save flawless gems and cube them to perfect. Perfect gems can be traded here in the forums for reasonably good gear.
>Maybe make a Magicfind Sorc. to do Nightmare Andy and Mephy runs.
>Ask lots of questions (those of us who have been here for awhile like to show off our knowledge of the game...most of the other guys around here actually know what they are talking about too)

Good hunting

more newbie questions

I'm still lurking..and thanks so much by the way to all who answered me, much appreciated!!

Next questions are: ladder or non-ladder- pros and cons? I'm not sure which to go on.

Also any preference to USWest or USEast servers? I'm in central Canada so really I could go either way and still be reasonably close to the server I'm assuming...

Thanks in advance for your continuing help! :D

Ladder without doubt if you're starting from scratch: less dupes, ladder only unique items and runewords. Can't figure out any cons.

cons: hell difficulty is tougher, and the ladder resets pushing all ladder chars to nonladder.

That's hardly a con when compared to nonladder is it. You can still continue playing the chars and sell the the ladder only items to nonladder people with huge prices. Sounds much better than starting on nonladder to me.

again..ty:)

I'm on the realms now ( ladder-USEast), working on a skellimancer right now, got him to lvl 6 so far and I'm having fun. If I remember correctly I named him Manzinard so if you see him wandering around don't hesitate to say hello!

Edit: account name is virago btw.

Second edit-account name was wrong- this is what happens when you start two RPG accounts the same night ;)

ladder items are more expensive to trade for (less dupes). but i'd go with ladder for the better items.
yeah, i've been playing on non ladder for a while now, but I just started playing ladder today and so far I've found better items that the stuff in non-ladder..

agreed, yet it is a con. Maybe its the devils advicate in me, but i wanted to show that *there were cons* to ladder, just somewhat insignificant ones.

Well if you don't like the east server for whatever reason and decide to switch to west look me up and i can give you a helping hand either ladder or non. I have some extra stuff lying around that i don't mind giving to help a new player.

I'm game to help out as well at *sartok on USEast ladder. Skellimancers are a great build to start off with, good choice.
