When all else fails, bone prison and a really nasty bow should do the trick. But yeah, I think this guy hit a critical failure on his research roll. I think I've gotten results just from googling "bone necro."
In any case, skill-wise, they aren't too complicated. You can go full bone necro and spend 102 pts. with prerreqs to max Teeth, Bone Spear, Bone Spirit, Bone Wall, and Bone Prison since all of these skill compliment the attacks with intersynergy goodness and Wall and Prison have the added benefit of giving you 600 points to the Bone Armor that you had to take. That leaves you with a whopping 8 points to round your Necro out with, which you will most likely want to put into getting decrepify and then spend the last 2-3 on Clay Golem.
I prefer to ignore Teeth beyond the prereq (it's not that great in Hell from what I hear) and take the slight hit to my damage potential in order to round out my Bone Necro a little bit more with more curses and a stronger golem.
The best thing the guides can do is recommend stats and equipment, which won't be that useful until you're at a point where you're actually starting to see some of the high level goodies pop up occasionally.
