Need clarification about the etheral bonus

Been looking at the runeword 'Grief' that offers the flat 340 to 400 damage to any 5 socket sword or axe. It got me wondering whether or not its going benefit from being on an ethereal item. As I recall ethereal bonuses are added to the flat damage (or defence) of an item and its not calculated as enhanced like it used to be. So does this mean that the 340 to 400 damage will be left without getting the ethereal bonuses applied to it?

No, the added damage doesn't benefit from the ethereal bonus, only the weapon's base damage. Since Grief does not give indestructible or repair mods it wouldn't be that great of an idea to make an eth one anyway...

That's right, one can't upgrade white exceptional items to elite, my error. Thank you for the info stephan!

Anyway, the +damage on grief is weapon damage (not base damage) which is then enhanced by "off weapon damage like skills and fortitude armor.

Ethereal is a 50% increase in base damage, which the %damage on the weapon will benefit from, but not straight +min, +max or +damage.
