need advise building a fortune

I havent played since 1.09 so all my accts are gone and im starting from scratch. What is the best way to start getting trade currency. Im on useast ladder atm. I had thought chippies since those used to be big back in day but no one seems to need them.

Uh, a liitle advice, don't plan on getting gosu equipment, because ladder reset is around the corner and you'll lose it anyways. This is the perfect time though to try out some different builds, especially if you haven't played for that long, so you can start new ladder effectively.
As for gaining wealth I'd suggest the usual running of bosses nad pits (dunno if they were there already in 1.09, if not - http://strategy.diabloii.net/news.php?id=532 ) for uniques, since in the beginning of ladder their price is over the top since everyone needs them. (just on a side note, first shako found on this ladder was sold for the price which would fetch 175 HR's today )
Then there's also hellforge rushes, where you can get runes up to gul on hell difficulty if you're lucky (but usually you'll just get sol or hel). Still, worth to try. Last, pick up every flawless gem and turn them to perfect. 30-40 of them can fetch you a pul and with this rune you can start to buy some descent equipment.

Cipped gems aren't really used anymore.
The best way to get currency is to collect crafting/spirit/insight runes and gems and sell them in bundles (20 Craft runes = 18 PAme = 20 PRuby = 36 PGs = Pul on EU Realm). Popular lowrunes include Tal, Ral, Sol etc. but check the crafting recipies - selling a pack of 20 Jewels, 20 Nefs, 20 Rubies and 20 Blue Vampirebone Gloves would probably get you a HR or more.
If you have more than one account, rushing own characters to hellforge (like Chairnik pointed out) or doing rushes/leveling-service for others can also prove profitable.
Pretty much any unique/set-item in the game (save a few very rare items with alot of varying stats) can be gotten for PGs. And most character builds can get decent equipment for 20-25 PGs.

There are a couple of "getting rich" guides here - the search function will reveal more. The general concensus, I think, is to make a first build of a sorceror (Socialism has an excellent TK/Orb guide for hardcore) and do Mephy repeatedly (glitching is an option to get better drops).

ty sorry i overlooked that post is alot of sections in here and i was slowly going threw them so much has changed since i last logged in so lots of catching up to do. I didnt really excpect to make a fortune before the ladder reset was just trying a ls trap assassin and a blizz sorc prob gonna go with the sorc since i can easily stick p topaz gear on her and not suffer
