Need advice for skelemancer

Fellow crypt fiends
My skelemancer is doing quite well in hell, has skellies at lv 39 and barely has to use revives. However, i met a dude whose skellies were at lv 46, believe me or not. How the hell did he manage that? I would really appreciate any thoughts on additional gear...
Helm: shako
armor: trang
wand: arm of king leoric
shield: homunculus w perf diamond
boots: marrowwalks +1
belt: arach
ring: 2x soj
amulet: seraph's hymn
gloves: trang
Planning on getting a beast, but they are so rare! i have a hoto and perf raven frost fer trade but no-one seems to have it...
I also have 2x +1 summoning tree skillers, but no annihilus.
skills:
max raise skeleton
max skeleton mastery
4 revive
2 summon resist
max corpse explosion
3 skeleton mage
2 golem mastery
3 iron golem
1 fire golem
1 clay golem
1 in every curse
any thoughts?

well...

2 enigma
5 leoric
2 homunc
2 sojs
1 arachnid
3 summoner ammy
3 summoner circlet
1 annihilus

thats level 39 right there and you still have room for 10 summoning grand charms.

Shortly after i made this post i aquired a beast. However, when i switch from my wand the skill lvl of the skellies drops. Was this supposed to happen?

Yes it is suppose to happen, but when you switch to beast, the skeletons remaining skeletons still have the stats from the first weapon, only smaller in group.

Yes.

Lets say with the wand you have lvl 45 - you can raise up 17 skellies. They will be at lvl 45 strength.

When you weapon swap to the beast, the limit on how many skeletons you can raise goes down because your level is um... 40, so now you can only have 15 skeletons.

So two of them will die, and you will be left with 15 skellies at level 45 strength.

Thats the important bit, they stay at the power you summoned them at.
This is called 'pre-buffing'.

----------

Proving that that is what happens is a bit harder - here's one way:
Start a low level necro in single player.
type /players 8
go out and bash things, looking around for skills shrines.
Only put one point into skllies, and one point into mastery (not more!!! - even if you get more points, remember, this is just a quick test)

Take note of how fast your 2 x 2/1 skellies kill.
(They should be doing 3-4 pts of damage per hit)

When you find a skills shrine, use it so that you can now have 3 x 4/3 skellies. Raise up three new skeletons, trashing the old ones.
Revel in your uber ness as you run around with them doing 7-8 pts of damage now (just a bit more than twice as much!).

When the skills shrine effect wears off, you will lose one of the skeletons.
Take note of how fast the two remaining skeletons kill now.

Are they really doing twice as much damage? Or is it all in our imaginations?

Give it a go, and let us know! If we found out that prebuffing doesn't work anymore, that would be a good thing to know.

Thanks for the hearty welcome, dudes. Yep, you were right, that beast sure does work its magic :)
All i need now is a +3 to summoning circlet and +3 to summoning ammy, then i am in good shape. Just wondering: are those overly hard to come by? I have a anni on my pala, but i hardly ever use him anymore... this necro kicks major ***, the skellies can hold their own very well solo in 8 player hell... they would certainly be something humongous at lv 41!
