Neat rare pally sword - potentially better than BOTD?

I found this sword off a hell baal run when i was leveling up my zealot :thumbsup: It was just a normal rare crystal, but I remember the potential of a good rare and ...

Storm Needle Crystal Sword
+2 Combat Skills (Paladin)
+318% ed
+9 max
+51 AR
+7 poison over 3
+6% mana steal
ETHEREAL

The damage was originally 22-100, I upped it to a dimensional blade and the damage increased to 79-226. I'm thinking of upping it to phase, but I don't exactly need another zealot weapon at this point, and I'm not completely rich either (I need um for stone more than for upping the sword). The +2 to combat skills adds a nice boost to both ar and damage as it increases zeal, and I'm wondering if it can rival botd with the right setup. Thanks!

I doubt that it could hope to rival BotD, since the other stats on that sword are pretty lame. It is a cool collectors item though, so I say upgrade it!

That's a pretty sweet find. Upgrade it and socket it with a Lo rune.

However, it's not as "good" as the cheesy BoTD. Although it's no where near as expensive, or duped for that matter.

I obtained an ethereal Crystal Sword with similar mods and upgraded it to Phase a short while ago. Even with the +min/max and 419%ED on mine it still isn't quite up to BotD standards.

Its definitely cool to have an ethereal phase blade but probably not the absolute best choice as a weapon.

you people are nutty, i would take either of those phases...and they come near to botd...nasty conc zealots(you can get enough ar) or even a blessed aim zealot(1 billion ar actually)

No worries guys, I use an eth upped headstriker, and in my mind, it > BOTD any day :p Thanks for the comments - I was thinking of another build to use the sword, but I'm still focusing on making my fana zealot. I was hoping conc might work, but even in 1.09 fury phases were so good because of the whole eth bug and the you only needed 32 more ias besides the sword ... this sword is kinda lacking in both departments.

I just use it as a prebuff right now, much cooler than hand of blessed light!

From a newbie's perspective, I thought that BOTDs were the pinnacle of great weaponary. There's better?

Hand of Justice on a conquest sword is nice as well it has blindtarget/ignore target defense, freeze target and deadly strike. I prefer hand of justice over BOTD in some situations, honestly I dont see that much of a diff, the extra life leech % on BOTD is made up for by the increased base damage of the conq sword and I get more then enough mana drain from other items anyway.

They are the most commen of the best there are other weapon out there that are just as good you just have to keep a close eye for them. Ethy zoded Deaths cleaver is one of them. Then you have the godly rares. The ethy perfect razors edge. There are alot of really good weapons out there ebotd is just one of them. People for a wile when 1.10 came out where saying that ethy perfect zoded stormlash was one of the best. Right now it is not true. But it is still a dam good choose.

If only it had the Fool's Mod on it. It would own any BotD. I stand by my 1.10 Zealot build still. I was unbeaten by any manner zealot I faced. Yes, I do have my bragging rights. Even took care of most BM Zealots.

Oh, I prayed to get a fool's mod on it, but the only decent rare that I got with a fool's mod was a falcata with 40ias, fools, and .... 78% ed hahaha.

Still searching for a second UM rune to upgrade this for fun :p

I had a find rather like that but it wasnt an eth crystal sword- it was a normal sabre. The basic mods were fools and 259% ed. It also has a little but of life leech (7%) and some +min damage, and maybe something else. I'm definately considering upgrading it to an elegant blade, since you don't see many of those running around. I also found a neat little bow- large siege bow, 319 ed, 4% life leech, 1 cold dmg, 266% dmg to undead (die pindle die!) and then of course ctc amp. I like rares alot. I makes even the ub4r 1337 botters say "whoa where'd you get that sword?"...well either that or "my BoTd PwNz JoO noob!"

either way rares are definately cooler and make a character more unique than uniques and runewords do :)
