Nat's Odium...(rant sorta)

I just completed the coveted Nat's Odium and I'm wondering, wtf is the big deal. The aura is stupid, unless you get Fade for free, which you don't. The boots should be buried with Blood Raven in the cemetary, and the Mark? TC 87?!?

+3 To Assassin Skill Levels
+350 Defense
14% Life Stolen Per Hit
14% Mana Stolen Per Hit
All Resistances +50
Damage Reduced by 30% (Awesome!)
Magic Damage Reduced By 15
Fade*

1 upgraded Bartucs = +2 Assassin skills, similar avg. damage, +1 MA
Vamp Gaze = PDR, LL/ML
Vipermagi = +1 skill, 35% res
Shadow Dancers (only 1 TC 87 in set) = +2 shadow, + awesome kick damage

I don't get it? Is this as bad as Aldur's set?!? I guess the only thing I can see using this is maybe PS or DC assassin, but with PS, I'm worried about not enough + skills.

Anyway, anyone want to trade Mark for IKSC? (I'm kidding, I'm gonna save it just in case I make a DC assassin)

It is better than Aldur's Set. :p

Basically, the only very good class specific sets are Immortal King and Tal Rasha's Wrappings.

my experience with Nat's set is that it is kinda dumb - a regular aura would have been much more rewarding (thanks blizzard).

I have found this with a couple of the sets - Nats and Manivas both make the wearer look, well, fat!. I'm sorry, Assassins and Zons are supposed to be lean, mean, fighting machines. Instead, they get hips wide enough to give birth to Diablo himself. Now, if fade and *fade stacked, and made you invisible or something, now that would be cool, but the fact is, well, It is really quite dumb.

congrats on completing the set though - maybe someday they'll fix the boots or something, give a better aura, maybe another stat or two. I guess it is time to make a claw/claw sin with nats and bartucks or something.

Well it still great achievement to complete nats set
Thanks, it is my 2nd complete of the 7 sets, self-found, I traded for Tals Armour...

Oh and I totally spaced this, I put a Tals Ammy in my thesis giveaway stash
*duh*

Yeah. the class-specific sets are generally not as exciting as they could be, especially griswold's (3 TC87's!) and that sucks. I'm making all of the sets into chars right now, and it's cool and all, but it makes me disappointed at the sets.

Funny a Nat's armor just dropped for me today and I was pondering those 3 sockets and what I ought to put into them. I haven't given it a lot of thought yet. Maybe someday I'll get around to building the blade fury assassin I want to make.

You have to remember that Nat's boots, which I personally think rock for their mods (40% fr/w and up to 25% on two res's), were originally created when kicks had a different damage formula and were't affected by boots.

Given that set items drop more often than Uniques do, it's hardly surprising that some mix and match of godly uniques will provide better bonuses than a full set will. Personally I would sell several close relatives for their organs to get 14% dual leech, 30% PDR, and +50 res all...

Griswold's set is quite disappointing. It is really rare (3 TC87 items as you said, of which 2 are class specific) and you can make better item combos with uniques. Maybe it would be good with big bunch of godly socketables but they are even harder to find

I have never made a char who uses any of the class-specific sets (and I have them all)

But congrats Fafner on completing Nat's set!

All three of my Patriarch/Matriarch characters have full class-specific sets: Necromancer, Assassin, Sorceress. I am working on my fourth, an Amazon, right now; she's almost at the level to wear the full set. In my experience, the sets are useful, even though they don't compare in raw +skills to unique items. The cast rate bug with Trang-Oul's Avatar makes it useless on my Bonemancer, but other than that, they are all great sets. I make my characters use the sets just to make them thematic, and a bit more difficult to play than your standard unique item builds, which all seem to involve the same "uber" gear. I'd rather work with mediocre mods to make a character fun, than with outrageous mods to make a ho-hum character.

i also use the full sets just to set the mood but, i was definatly happy with nats set. i think the fade look is kinda cool, but i personally don't like the aura of the other sets very much.

30% damage reduction means with a verdungo's or an SS your running max PDR, or you could dual wield, with one nat's mark and one bartuc's. The armor also allows that if you can get your hands on some Um runes(a lot more common then those shadow dancers) resistences won't be a problem. The damage on the mark is good for an assassin claw you don't often see higher, 14% dual laech actually meant i COULD leach in hell skill, it wasen't an instant healer but during longer battles it definatly made a big differance. so maybe for a trapper its not that great but as an MA assassin i was very pleased with it

MA as is in you don't kick anything, but use regular or DC? I'm happy with it now though, you'll see me tonight sporting it in MP games...

If you think the sets are bad now, think back to 1.09 **shudder**
Blizzard tried to make the higher level sets viable and they did, but they will never compare to a uber-unique combo, except maybe IK and Tals as someone pointed out.

It's basically how things are now I guess, it looks like this:

rare < set < unique < runewords

It's a shame actually, because the game was more interesting back in classic, when rares were the ultimate items, and you were always looking forward to having a rare drop, wondering if it would be better than what you currently had. That element of surprise is all but lost in LoD, since what you're looking forward isn't a drop in yellow, but in gold in nearly all the cases, with the possible exception of rare amulets and rings

Don't forget about Mavina's set... :D
I have to agree... Aldurs set *IS* the crappyest elite set, thanks to its mace.

Exactly. It's also supposed to be good for a claw Blade Fury Assassin, but I think that's about it. It really is too bad they didn't change the base type of the boots. I guess they've never done that with any set items though.

I really wish the Mark were a little better too--both by itself and with the set. Oh well, it's not like I'm likely to ever find one anyway.

Well, I've always thought the elite sets were pretty good anyway. You can't fault with 14% leech or 30%dr. Of course with BoTD weapons and CoH armours etc, you'll beat this hands down but over-all, I think its more than sufficient to kill hell baal.

Aldur's on the other hand is really annoying for having a set which can't decided on which type it wants to be. Low damage suggests a caster but the set mods don't really help casters either, not to mention druids are normally fast with 2-H weapons anyway.

I don't think that's true in 1.10. There are some godly rares possible, and quite apart from anything else, the BEST items by far are now runewords--so everyone who has the runes is probably watching for grey items to drop, not gold!
