Name some of the least gear-dependant sub-classes.

Aright, heres the thing. I'm pretty good at designing a character and then leveling it up. The thing I'm not at all good at, is finding good items. So, not only would character thats not gear dependant be better for me right now with my limited inventory, but it would also be a good char to put some MF gear on once I have it leveled up, and try to find some good gear.

So, what are some good subclasses? I haven't played a Sorc in a while, definately not in 1.10, but to me they seem to depend on gear very little. I mean, all your damage comes from skills, gear just increases it. The other that I could think of was a Trapsin. Agree, disagree? any other ideas? Please let me know.

The easiest options is probably Blizzard sorc og Hammerdin.

Blizzard or Frozen orb sorc would be my suggestions. I think the hammerdin could be a bit fragile, having to get a bit closer to bosses. But that's my HC hat on.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not so much interested in which would be the easiest, as I am just getting some options so I can decide what I want to do. So far we have Blizz/Orb Sorc, Hammerdin, and Trapsin.

I'd say Necromancer with summon skeleton/skeleton mastery/revive and some curses like amplify damage and decrepify.

I made mine 9 days ago and with crap equip i can solo hell/act5 without problems. In these 9 days i've gone to lvl 85 and still maintain work and family.
like this morning i took him to baal, and then took a shower while my skellies, slowly, tore bhaal apart... ;). Necros are too strong now in my opinion but it suits me well since i like going solo.

Nec with skellies: safest
Bliz sorc: most damage, but only has one type of attack and is really fragile
Hammerdin: hammerdin without some good equip is slow casting, low on health and doesn't have teleport to save him. Wait with him until you find at least a wiz :)

So what does everyone think about a Trapsin? Maybe not the best choice, but do you think it's viable? I think that is the char I would prefer to make.

Gotta go w/ a skellimancer. All his gear is cheap.

Full Ik for a barb is cheap now too

LF zon, someone claimed in SPF that this char could kill Hell Baal with a cracked javelin...

Hybridsin (Dtalon/traps) needs only Amn/Tir +2 socket claw...easily obtainable, Myrmidon greaves can be shopped from Hell Anya.

Necro summoner can do it from start to finish untwinked soloing in 8 player game. I have done this once solo on SP game using players 8 all the way. Then when beta was over and real 1.10 ladder started I did the same there, but this time there were 2 other player accompanying me in 8 player game when we killed hell Baal. I even had a necro head I had been using since act1 normal at level 92. It had level requirement of 3.

frozen arrow, lf, hybrid jav/bow, mages (maxxed valk) zons. i think you can do the entire game with any random skill + valk.
skelli, revive, pnb necros.

i used necros/zons to eq my other chars. summoners can use 100% mf eq. zons can kill very fast, but use less mf. the zon found more than the necro.

skelli mancer hands down. i dont know if its just me but magic wands and necro shields drop al the time with a tonne of summon mods. easiest character to solo hell with and can wear a lot of mf gear. My only "concern" is that imo its the most boring build. Uber strong but boring just my oppinion though.

It aint 'boring', its more like.. what am i gonna do while my skellies work... I use corpse explosion to get more action while playing tho and that helps some.. but for some peculiar reason I played the necro for one week b4 switching to a barb.

The damage is definately up on a pure Trapassin, but I'd have to say without some decent plus skill stuff you'll have trouble. Plus you are one element. Fireblast will work for you, but... its difficult to use. The up side is you can get some pretty cheap stuff to make him better, ie shopping for +3 Trap Claws.

I tried this for my first character on the ladder and was disappointed.

I would go with the trapsin... I have a lvl 84 trapsin that does over 5k lightning dmg with LS... and the corpse explosion on DS is great for large groups. Plus you'll have a good tank with your shadow master (best merc skill IMO) And as for fire blast being too hard to use, i dissargree, with BoS and a little ias, fire blast is better than LS in some cases (yes, even with non-lightning immunes), as it has a very consistent 2.4 - 2.8k'ish dmg and can get very fast. Its not very gear dependant either... you can buy the claws u'll want to use (2x +3traps claws), and thats already +6 to skills. So with really cheap gear, like a PDiamond sigon shield and a tarnhelm (lol), with maybe a +1 or +2 trap ammy thats already +9 - 10 skills to your traps. The only bad part is that if you are looking for this char to be a mf'er its a toughy, as the claws take away two good spots to put mf (although you may put ist's or mf jewels into the claws)... anyway... trapsin would be my suggestion (she was my first, and rules now)
