n00b question about socketing rare items

If i try to add sockets to rare items, using the 3 chipped gems, would it reroll the stats?

Hmm, the only recipe that uses 3 chipped gems is:

3 Chipped Gems + 1 Magic Weapon = Socketed Magic Weapon

This will only work with magic items (blue), not rares, though it will reroll the stats.

The only cube recipe that I know of to add sockets to a rare item, is:

3 Perfect Skulls + 1 Rare Item + Stone of Jordan = Add 1 Socket To a Rare Item

This won't reroll the rare, though.

Best bet is to use an Act5 socket quest.
