my sorc is level 87 wih 558 MF but..

Why do i always get crap drops from hell pindle, meph, and andy

Is it because i need to get higher level for it to have a higher chance to drop better items? I heard something about that, I was looking at some MF guides and i couldn't find anything...
Thanks lemme know

A good mf is exactly 300 or 350. You have to balance between killing power and mf.

MF runs are a marathon.

It takes an EXTREMELY lucky streak, or literally thousands of runs to get a good amount of good items. Stick with it.

Deadbeater told you what's wrong. If you have 558 mf, then you have a killing problem: you could be killing faster. 300 mf is enough; the rest of your gear should focus on killing faster. +skills, fcr, +% fire/cold/light skill damage are all good.

try being lvl 90 :)
all items can drop then
if you are 80 then there is no way a tyryael will drop as an example:p

That's about as untrue as can be. Items do not drop based on character level, they drop based solely on Area level, with alvl 85 being the highest where every item can drop.

eldritch should be one of the good to mf on to, ain't he?

my lvl 84 Sorc has about the same mf as samcisnow and kills mephisto EASY, like in the matter of seconds and i have like +2 to all skills only.

But you can go like full tal'rasha to make your sorc more effective and still have a pretty good mf as the set (ONLY) gives you 168mf but it leaves 2 rings, gloves, boots & shield open for more mf.

2x Nagel Rings 60mf, chance guard gloves 40mf, war traveller boots 50mf & Rhyme Shield 25mf and then you can socket the helm and armor with a pgem or even an IST to gain mf so with the orb wich could lead to another 90mf and in the end would be 433mf.

And then ofc charms.

Yes, you and I both suck at the MF luck. lol, I have a sorc and a hammerdin that I do mf runs and both have over 400 mf but I cant find jack. It is so bad, then I use my hork barb with not even 200 and I get a Templars from pits. pfft.

Just takes time and a good streak.

So you would recommend me remove 3 charms(7,7,4) when I have 318 mf doing pitruns with an assassin?
Or put on chance guards and then get 350(with other charm removals)

If you want to get an idea of what drops during MF-runs, check my trade thread here: http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=650511

Excuse the unshamely advertising.

All items were gathered over the course of a month using a meteorb sorc with 400 mf tops.

There's some crap there, some medium stuff and some nice finds. Well of course the million Isenhart's cases that dropped aren't on that list; they're still in Durance 3 gathering rust and dust.

Well,

higher mf isn't always best. and not just because of killing speed, its the way it calculates it. 300-350 mf is the best to have.

Also i know your lvl doesn't effect mf. but once i hit 90 i seemed to have alot better luck. trick is to just keep at them. the drops are all random, so youve got as much chance as anyone else to get a gg item.

I tend not to run the pits because it takes a while to run. I mf in baal runs (more ppl = more drops) and run nith, and and meph because there quick and easy to do

FALSE. I don't understand why people keep saying that the best MF is between 300 and 350 even if it doesn't affect your speed. There are diminishing returns, but it doesn't mean you're still not going to benefit from it.

For example, chances of Mara's dropping from Hell Mephisto in a 1 player game:

300 MF - 1:3848
350 MF - 1:3707
400 MF - 1:3594
500 MF - 1:3414
600 MF - 1:3295

As you see, there are diminishing returns, but the chances of Mara's dropping while increasing MF aren't lower! Basic rule is: put on as much MF you can if it doesn't affect your killing speed too much (and for HC, safety).

mf works, by a narrowing down routine.

First it will check to see if the item is magic, if it is not it will roll on to see if it is rare, if not, then it will check to see if it is set and finally unique.

With high mf, the chances are your going to roll a magic or rare item.

Don't think ive explained this v well. but test it for yourself, make a char with 800 mf and one with 350. I bet you you'l find alot more unique items with the 350 mf!

That's also wrong.

From Hrus' MF guide if you don't believe me:

Hrus said:
The game checks the quality in this sequence: Check for being unique, if failed check for being set, if failed check for being rare, if failed check for being magic, if failed check for high quality item or if the item can't be normal quality (jewelry), generate magic quality item, if the high quality check failed, check for normal quality item, if failed generate low quality item.

Re: my sorc is level 87 wih 558 MF but..

Here's an oddity that I discovered, was wondering if anyone could explain.

I am running Hell Andy on /players 3 for Tal's set amulet. According to ATMA's drop calc, the optimum MF for this item is 284% which gives a 1:1258 chance it will drop. Chances actually decrease as you go above this threshold, if only slightly (e.g., 350% MF gives 1:1282). This only applies to uniques, superuniques, and bosses; not regular, minion, or champion monsters. Can anyone enlighten me?

Re: my sorc is level 87 wih 558 MF but..

@dryzalizer: I had to check it up to believe you
Anyway, the only explanation I can find is that with increasing mf gives you better odds for finding alot of items from andy, possibly it's increasing the drop chances for alot of other items far more than it's increasing the chances for tal's amu, hence resulting in an overall lower dropchance for tal's amu.

@Tiidus: Why? Let's put it like this, if you can choose 2 different set-ups, on granting you 325 mf(in the middle of your 300-350 spawn that you seem to like) and the other granting 558 mf (like OP's example). Both kills hell mephisto in about 20 seconds, is there any reason not to choose higher mf?

@OP: You'll get frustrated after running ~100 runs without a single decent item dropping, but the next time you might get something really elusive in just 5 runs. It's all about luck and mf only effects luck in a slim way.

Well, I think if you have too much MF, you have a better chance of getting a unique amulet instead.

Highlord's Wrath does drop more often with more MF.
