My Predicament

My necro is doing decent at lvl 89 except for one problem: terrible resists in hell mode. Hopefully you guys can give me advice to help me fix that problem (my resists are around **4** in hell mode) without hurting my damage badly. Maybe even improve my damage too? Here is my equipment and budget.

Equipment:
Shako (ptopaz) - yeah, sucks.. came like that
Homonoculus (clean)
Vipermage (30 resist, clean)
Blackhand Key
Trang Gloves
SOJ
Arach's
14 Resist all ring
Silkweave Boots
+2 necro ammy

Stats w/o Equipment:
str 81
dex 190
vit 159
nrg 25
left 75

Budget:
Ist
2x Um
Pul
Some crap I might be able to trade for maybe 3 more Um's

I'm a bone necro. This is my only char so I'm lucky to come by this stuff. Hopefully I won't need to spend it all yet. What do you think I should do? Thanks in advance for the advice.

I'm no expert on Bonemancers, but a couple of simple steps imo would be to socket your homu with a PDiamond and to unsocket your Shako, replacing the PTopaz with an Um rune - that gives another 34% Resist All in total.

Furthermore, I'd ditch your Blackhand key in favour of a Wizardspike. 75% Resist All, 50% FCR and some rather 1337 Mana boni is not to be sniffed at.

um your shako after you clean it out.

Um in viper

Lookinto different boots... even rares can have some godly resists.

I think that you only need 188 for max block on homoc so stop putting pts there.

And don't forget the charms. You can fill up your inventory with resistance charms --- even single resist charms. It might not be l33t to use anything but 5% allres small charms with some great 2nd mod, but it really helps.

would it really be worth it to put an Um in 30% viper? Is there a runeword or some better armor I could trade for?

I would put the UM in your Shako, personally. You can always trade for a 34-35 Viper, but a Shako will never have resistances.

You COULD trade for a Chains of Honor (DolUmBerIst) if you are really a resistance freak, but you would lose a lot as far as the cast rate and mana bonus from SotVM.

I'm guessing you have max black with your Homun at 190 dex (if not dang close). I would so go for it!

Yeah, throw it in the cube with a Hel rune.

Its Hel, townportal scroll, missocketed item = clean socketed item.

Just a hel rune will not work. I suggest getting some small charms with resistances and adding the um in your unique head. You can get up to 10% IIRC resistance for any element on small charms, and the extra bonus coming from your inventory not your equipment will make it easier if you ever die and have to retrace to your corpse, unless your hardcore. If your really lucky you could find a shimmering small charm of luck.

I'm definitely going to put Um in my shako. Chains of honor sounds expensive... BTW what is sotvm?

as for the Um in homon. is the difference between Um and a pdiamond really worth it?

PDiamond in your Homun would be fine as UM runes are pretty expensive (at least on USE NL).

Unless you are using duped runes, the answer is "no": pdiamond is 19 resist all, UM is 22 resist all --- a difference of 3. If you find a shimmering small charm, it will have 3-5 resist all... so the difference is just one charm.

Despite the lack of +skills on Wizardspike, its a great weapon for any caster. Sell Blackhand and get a FCR/mana boost instead. With Wizard you can raise your damage because you reach 75 % FCR, and you you add a crafted necro amu with 5 % FCR, you will reach 125 % FCR.
