My Merc's aura is driving me insane

I just started a summonancer today (or fishymancer as they also seem to known), and I'm having a fair bit of fun. I was surprised as just how good skeletons are, Andy fell to a pack of 7 of them in less than 10 seconds.

Anyway, enough of that. When I arrived in Act 2, I got a Defiance Merc like I do with every character. The only problem is, the aura activation sound is driving me insane with the amount of times its activating. With skeletons going one way and the merc the other, or the merc not keeping up with me and the skeletons, there is always a skelly or two that lose the aura and get it re-activated. And this happens all the bloody time, even when I stand still =/

Is this a problem that tends to go away once my Merc reaches the highrer levels and gets a bigger radius aura, or is this something I'm stuck with the whole game?

Further more, is there anything I can do about it such as editing some sound file somewhere to prevent the sound from ever playing? I'd like to be able to listen to D2 if I can, but if I have to I'm muting it and listening to music instead, this is just annoying =/

Muting the sounds would not be good. It would be great if there was a way to filter out those aura sounds (dumb crickets and rain, too). I run an amplified sound system on my pc but it is an el-cheapo with no band filter. There must be a way to do this.

As the merc levels and the radius grows, then it becomes less of an issue, but it's something you've gotta put up with.

Do the sane thing - mute D2's sound and listen to music!

I find the sounds really useful in battle, so wouldn't turn them off myself, but can understand the temptation. When I first got my Act 2 Nightmare merc, with his Might aura, he was casting it so often it was driving me a little nuts. Some games let you turn off all kinds of individual sounds, but unfortunately D2 doesn't have that kind of flexibility.
