My brand new necro

So I just started a new necro because I found myself wanting to summon more than my druid would allow. I've been reading the build guides and was wondering why everyone eschews teeth. According to the handy little damage calculator:

http://stud4.tuwien.ac.at/~e9325732/skillcalc.html

teeth does significantly more damage at high levels than spirit. Also, my skeletons can easily gang up and kick the tar out of one or a few monsters and it's when there's several that one or two may get by initially. Therefore I reason, the multi-shot of teeth is a good thing.

Is my logic flawed in some way?

I don't where you got that calculator from. It's interesting. I think I'll wait to see if anyone else can confirm the info. I'll tell you teeth is fun as heck in normal.

Got it from the sorc forum in their fascinating discussion on Blizzball vs Meteorb

I got a 84 Bonemancer on West NL and I'm noly raking in 1.1k teeth, 3.7k Bone Spear and 4.3k Bone Spirit I forget his exact gear but tis , near perf boneshade, vipermagi, shako, homun, arachnid mesh, +3 bone ammy and marrowwalk I think thats it...

It's be intersting if teeth where alot more powerful :) Teeth works awesome in normal for rushing and NM can be decent too

So teeth are not as good in Hell, and apparently my cute little spell-damage program doesn't quite work right.

Why don't teeth work in Hell, and has anyone else had any other results? Given all things equal (equal assignments in teeth, spike, and spirit) is spirit actually worth it? I've also read some comments (Tengu, Kendu and the like) that spirit isn't worth it without the marrowalk bug. It seems kinda cheezy to base an entire character build (or a significant part thereof) on one item.

What that dillie-o?

If we take 20/20/20 in Teeth/BSpear/BSpirit then Teeth will shoot 21 teeth with a damage per tooth of 161-217. BSpirit does 1156-1254 at that level. You can see that the damage of Teeth is lower than that of BSpirit. Add to this the fact that only one tooth can hit an enemy at the same time and you can see why it is not as popular for PvM.

I understand that Teeth does have a use in PvP.

Spirit can do very well without the Marrow bug, but only for a pure Bonemancer. The bone attacks need synergies to function well. A Summon/Bone-hybrid with Skellies first needs to build up his Skellies. He also needs some points in curses. The rest of the points can be put into Spirit and its synergies. This doesn't leave you with a whole lot of points to dump into the synergies, so to counteract that problem people wear Marrowwalk. This means that the Summon/Bone-hybrid with Skellies is dependant on Marrowwalk.

If you, like me, feel that the Marrowwalk thing is cheesy then you can always play a Bone/Summon-hybrid who focuses on Revives instead of Skellies. This means that you can have a stronger Spirit and still have some decent tanks.

Teeth is an extremely useful skill in pvp.. It just pwns chars with low fhr%. Makes nailing them with spirit/spear a joke. I've found it useful against most sorcs & trappers.

It ain't so useful against chars with high fhr/life, but it can be used to give you a fraction of a second more time against barbs, for example, because they usually don't bother with dodging teeth while they run.

A beefed up bonemancer with marrowwalks can get teeth damage up to an average of 1.4k.. Without marrows it'll prolly be around 1.1k damage, still very useful :drink:
