Most powerful Iron Golem?

Most powerful Iron Golem?

Just curious. What's the theoretical limit on its power, assuming of course that it's maxed with synergies.

Crushing Blow? Poison Damage? Etc. What's the apex of this summon?

1001 pardons if this has been discussed before.

Re: Most powerful Iron Golem?

I think an Iron Golem is good for one of the following:
- Provide a useful aura
- Have Crushing Blow

The most useful aura depends on the character you're playing. Since you IG may die, making him out of Infinity is only theoretical. The only item I'd like for IG is Insight for the mediation aura.

A IG can reach about 50% CB. But realistically, you would make him out of the Strength runeword, which is cheap and easily made. This gives 25% CB.

Overall IG is useful but never the main force in your army. He's more a support character.

Good to know. What if we were to judge him standalone? No auras or anything, just you and rusty vs. D2.

BTW, do gemmed items confer their benefits to IG? And does Life Leech work with it? I haven't seen the graphic when he attacks.

IK mauls are also a popular choice for IG's. Drop a lot and are relatively useless in numbers.

i allways make it out of Beast. As it is right now, low% Beast berserker axes, or Beast made in any other axe is pretty cheap. I have never lost an IG yet in the 8 years i have played d2

My experience with an IG, a merc and no summons is that Open Wounds on the IG worked better than CB. I used to alternate between Strength and Malice (or uniques like Crushflange and Soul Harvest). It was always OW that proved the quicker killer.

I'm guessing that this is because CB combined with low weapon damage suffers badly from diminishing returns - i.e. the CB element becomes negligible at some point and your damage tails off to almost nothing.

However, if you have a stack of skeles running around with your IG, I'd go for CB.
