More quick questions!

I could post this in the non-hc forum, but the sorc is on hc... and I could probably look things up on arreat summit BUT i cant connect to from work, so I'll be lurking here from 9-5, anyway

first question is, do skills from +skill item act as synergies?

question number two - is DR calculated before or after ES.

third question, I'm making an orb/es sorc with the intent to do mephy runs. I'v maxed orb/mastery, got ES and 1 point in warmth. I dont plan to level past 85, which leaves me with 44SP at level 85 to spread between ES, TK and Ice Bolt (which are all at level 1). The question is basically, how many points should I have in IB? Potentially I could make my orb 40%stronger, but how much do you people think I should invest into it.

Thank you

I'm not sure about 2 and 3, but question one, only hard points you invest in synergies will increase the particular skill. +skills granted from items will not.

Hope you get answers for the others :)

3) This ones just my opinion but, I'd max TK, put enough points into ES to get it up into the high teens after +skills, and then put the rest into Ice Bolt. You should know though, I've never made a ES sorc before, so others might have a more experienced opinion.

Max TK.
~5 points in ES, depending on your gear... more mana = able to handle more points, more +skills = need less points, only reason I say ~5 is because that's the way I always do it.
Rest in IB.

I always put points in teleport to get it to 24 after skills... whether that number is based on projected gear or current gear depends on my mood. Points in teleport really is key to the build I think, 1 mana port makes getting away after mana burn sooooooo much cleaner.

I cant do that mouse, I'd rather just go FCR and not get hit. To put 18+ points in teleport would mean 0 in IB reducing my killing prowess too much.
I do have max block (just an fyi).
It's so hard to decide on skills when I dont know what equipment Im going to be using...

I read somewhere that it doesnt really make that HUGE of a difference whether you max IB or not. It's only really like an extra 2-3 casts or so to kill something

*edit*

i read it here: http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=557123

so, wouldnt you want to be able to teleport away at a cost of almost nothing in mana for faster travel? i think it's a preference but i would

Rygor investing in teleport doesnt make you teleport any faster (unless you'r struggling with mana, which I wont be). The only good reason I see is what mouse said, and it is mentioned in above guide, is to avoid getting stuck in case u get manaburned, which is valid...

ok ok, question can you get manaburned without getting hit? say you blocked a hit you still get manaburned?

I went 20 orb/20 cold mastery
I never had trouble killing Meph as long as my orb was exploding right inside of him. It takes some maneuvering to get it to hit him really nice, but it's not hard as long as your mercenary can take a few hits.

Heya, question about that. So, first the damage is split hp/mana via ES, and then the damage that's going to hp is reduced by your %dr (what by the way is the max dr for pvm on hell), or is the damage to both mana and life reduced?

And it looks like everyone's saying teleport > IB for mephy run

I always go with max ice bolt.

I find that killing things in one cast as opposed to 2 or 3 is a huge difference to my play style.

For the rare times I tele into a mana-burn pack and get hit (I too have max block and decent fcr), I always have a finger on my full juvs, so I can pop one and keep going, usually just a short distance to put back up my eshield, then keep on.

My sorc has lvled from 75-86 doing no baal runs whatsoever... Nothing but Andy/Meph/Tunnels, and I have the riches to show for it. Good luck to ya, all it takes is patience.

oh, my bad i didn't mean teleport FASTER. i was just going along that i agreed it would be helpful to teleport away at a low mana cost IF you got mana burned.

Not if your merc is using insight
Insight mercs don't tank meph.
Reapers, kelpie, woestave, and lawbringer are the only 4 weapons I'd ever use on a merc when running meph, especially in the 75-85 range, otherwise I'd just run with no merc.

Either way you're not getting meditation.

Ouch...
Well I get where you'r coming from. I think there might be a combination of helm/armor that could work tho it would be expensive.
The way I see it tho, since I dont have any of the 4 weapons you listed, assuming my merc cant tank, Im not going to be tanking iether; <-(fancy typing, Im trying to sound smart) I will tp around, orbing him. So I dont see what harm a merc will do since he will shift positions with every teleport and will likely stay alive, so I will get the benefit of meditation.

I will be trying this all out shortly by the way, Im in nm baals lvl 55.

Just been reading through Socialisms guide. I've never really played around with a super tele, FO and ES but I'll give it a whirl.

Not got a sorc on this ladder yet. In fact I'm going to make one now...........

One could possibly give a blackhorn's face to the Insight merc. 20% slow isn't anything special, but it's better than no slow at all...And he'll me mostly immune to lightening attacks.

Teleporting around meph can be dangerous. Go too far north and you attract the vampires, and too far right you get one of the scary council boss dudes.

An insight merc cant TANK meph, but he can keep him occupied long enough for you to kill him and also keep your lil buddy alive.
