mod idea

Hiya all,

A few weeks back there was talk of a SPF mod, and the general consensus was that most people weren't really bothered, but wouldn't play it themselves.

Then we've had threads about the various bugs and how Bliz won't do anything to sort them: FE, Gloam, Vamp casting, Marrowwalk etc.

Now what I put to you is this question (in 2 parts)

Part 1: If we had a mod that JUST fixed bugs and didn't do anything else (no different graphics, no different stats, just bug fixes) would you play it (and perhaps stop with the whining...)
Part 2: Which bugs would you want fixed in such a mod?

My personal take on this:

I think such a mod would be a good idea (call it 1.10spf) but I'd only play it if it became standard consensus to amongst us, as I do wish to remain part of the community, cos... *sniff* I love you guys...

anyway, thoughts please!

It'll still be a mod, and it would give an 'unfair' advantage to the players playing it.

I would not use it.

The four bugs you mentioned won't be easy to fix (except Gloam dmg). They're hardcoded :scared:

well there will always be those who refuse to play it, but it doesnt give an unfair advantage to those who use it. bnet has the bugs (most of them at least) fixed, yet we do not. vringing it in line with bnet i think shoudl be acceptable. althoughtrading / MP games would become more diffuclt, as you would only be able to trade with 1.10 or 1.10spf users.

I'm with RTB. The mod would certainly give an advantage versus single players who didn't use the mod. Bob, the comparison to b.net makes no sense in the context of a single player mod.

I wouldn't play it.

Same with me. IMO, the only bug that bothers me is the Ancients FE bug, and even that is avoidable with a TP scroll.

Given that, I make characters that I consider quaility, i.e. high resistences, high defense, absorb and decent damage. When all of these are combined, I become virtually immune to gloams and other baddies.

Also, I haven't died to a FE boss in a long time. So for you melee characters out there, GET MAX BLOCKING! FE explosion is blockable, so avoid it that way.

EDIT: AE has a PM.

I wouldn't play it either. It just would not be right. Also, I think it would take more than a mod to fix.

While I wouldn't play such a mod as CheekyJez is describing, I must point out that is not the question he is asking. I mean no disrespect to those of who have stated that you would not play this mod, but I simply don't think that this is the appropriate place to discuss your opinion on whether such a mod should exist. This issue has already been discussed in detail, and he's taking the initiative to get started on a project that he and many others would enjoy. Therefore, I suggest that we stand back and see what feedback he gets on his original questions, and voice opinions against it elsewhere.

I have thought about this too when I die to a Gloam for example. "Why cant someone just fix this crappy thing so I can get to Baal?" but no matter how I look at it, it will still be a modification of the game that the creator havent done so it wouldn't be really fair to the rest of the community no matter how much I would like this.

That is my 2 cents.

My bad, I guess...

But CheekyJez asks two questions. 1) Would you play a "bug fix mod", and the 2) What should be included

I answered his first, but because of my answer, I have no opinion on the second.

As I've said in any number of posts/threads, I completely support game modding. I also like the initiative taken here, but he still seems to be asking if the SPF would "endorse" such a mod. And that, unfortunately is very similar to recent threads, and the result IMO is predicatable.

Thanks for the support, Kremtok, but it WAS the question I was asking. Essentially such a mod would only be worthwhile if the whole community used it (obviously some purists never would, but then some people still don't use ATMA). I myself wouldn't want to use a mod that gave me any kind of advantage over other players, hence I wouldn't use a mod unless the majority of the SPF were also using it.

I'd like to thank all of you for not posting "OMG j00 r t3h haXXors".

Do they positives outweigh the negatives? IMO they dont.
A mod would give us an unfair advantage over other SPers who join this forum, I think it *could* work in the right place but I dont believe that place is here.

Please excuse me for jumping in like that; I simply misunderstood your intentions.

I won't play it! Mods suck! Terrible idea!

crazy runner guy, the 75% blocking thing isnt exactly a reassurance for me, as i usually play hardcore, you know, hrm, i have a 75% chance to live... but i also have a 25% chance to instantly die, with no way to avoid it, no matter how much twinking i do. something has to be done, if we all email them every day until they fix it, they will get around to doing it, as otherwise they will get daily messages from a large amount of angry people.

Anyway, I play SC nearly exclusively. IMO, (in SC solely), if you die, buck up and go at it again. The world is not lost if an FE bug takes your life.

HC is another story though...And that is why I have the utmost respect for HC players, especially for those with multiple guardians or who make guardian under highly restricted rules (AE, nightfish and Nemar).
