    missing item names

Have you ever thought that Bliz got a little short on creativity with item names? When LOD first brought us elites, I thought for sure that the maul would be a sledgehammer, and the trident would be a pitchfork. How hard could this be to think up? And what the hell is a stygian pike anyway?

I know there are too many items to sweat over every name, but these seem pretty obvious to me. What other items could have better names?

I never really had problems with the names they assigned just the order they assigned them in. One would think that a trident would be the elite version of a pitchfork for example.

I actually like the names they came up with far more than pitchfork, sledgehammer, etc. They sound a lot more dangerous and (this is important to me, if not to others) more suited to the medieval setting.

Personally, I like all the names for the elite weapons. They all sound so mythical; making me feel like my character is a demi-god wearing them. :)

I kinda agree with Zinger, I mean, what about a troll nest? Can you imagine a trool hatching an egg on a shield?

And what is so glorious about a bone knife or a walking stick? It seems almost a beggar's armory! But Balrog Skin is surely a cool one.

And finally, Azurewrath being the name of 2 different swords must have been the lamest.

Perhaps... but it was more lame to only have a normal unique be the mighty Azurewrath spoken in the huge background story of Diablo. It is still inexcusable to have the mighty demon sword Shadowfang a stupid normal unique.

Anyways in 1.10 the normal version of the Azurewrath is disabled. Only a few players still have that normal version of the weapon from 1.09.

Okay, I'll grant you, troll nest is a dud. Troll shield would have been a little on the simple side but not quite as silly.

As for bone knife and walking stick, those are perfect, I think. Bone knives, IIRC, are used in some cultures for religious rituals, so while not fearsome, the name does have some significance, so they fit the game's theme. And walking stick... Hey, Yoda used a cane, himself, and Gandalf called his staff a walking stick, too, right? :D Great for caster types.

Yep, it is. If you want to see for yourself, you can check the mpq files in the game. ATMA has the unique file text of it, so you can take a look if you want. There are a number of disabled items right now.

    The disabled items are the:

    Azurewrath (Crystal Sword)
    Constricting Ring

However, there are other items that do not have a zero or one in the enable slot. Those are:

Gore Ripper (does not have stats or item type)
Zakarum's Salvation (does not have stats or item type)
Odium (does not have stats or item type)
Larzuk's Champion (does not have stats or item type)
Giantmaimer (does not have stats or item type)
Darkfear (unique armet with no stats)
Nethercrow (does not have stats or item type)
Warriv's Warder (does not have stats or item type)
Merman's Speed (does not have stats or item type)
Sigurd's Staunch (does not have stats or item type)

I find Darkfear the most interesting of the disabled items. I am sure it would have been very good, even if it has a rarity of 1. It might explain why Steel Shade was so crappy.
