Mini Strategy Guide: FOH AND FAST CAST

Hey all,

I pulled this out of my upcoming guide and thought you might be interested in it. I am of the opinion little strategy/char design tidbits like this are more helpful than the shopping list / synergy charts most guides are.

I suppose what I am saying is anyone wanna help me get some advanced guides/tips going instead of just noobish guides?

FOH AND FAST CAST

Contrary to popular opinion, cast rate is worthwhile on a Templar. A minor amount of fast cast can trim off 4-6 frames from your attack speed, which makes a huge difference.

However, FoH cast breaks are a bit more complicated than hammer cast breaks. Cast timers actually affect the cast rate. The cast timer comes into effect directly after the spell is cast, but the spell is cast halfway through the cast animation, so the second half of the animation occurs during the timer. This means that the second half of the animation does not lengthen the total cast time of the spell. This affects fast cast rate equipment by halving the bonus you get from it. Since the animation is cut in half, any increase in speed is halved also. The practical effect of this on FoH is the removal of the odd cast breaks (as they are rounded up).

This means the FoH specific cast breaks are:

0% fcr – 16 frames
9% fcr - 14 frames
30% fcr - 12 frames
75% fcr - 10 frames

To keep cast in perspective, remember that going from 0% to 30% fast cast gains you as much time in a duel against a trapper as going from 0% to 200% fhr. It is DEFINITELY worth it in almost all duels.
