I lost my copy of diablo 2 a long time ago but recently bought a new one coz i missed it...

i have only my laptop to use these days but i cannot seem to start the game... the installation works fine but when i try to load the game with the play disc the screen just stays black... and an error comes up.

is there a way around this at all?
thanks

Re: might be a stupid question

If you can download and install the latest patch from battle.net (through your browser).

In my old computer the game would only start once after installing it because of a conflict with the cd-drive. Then a patch came and fixed it. It is also possible to get the patch by going online in D2 to battle net, but I am not sure you get that far.

It could be a video related error. Are you using DirectDraw or Direct3D? If you're not using DirectDraw then you might want to give it a try. You can change video mode by running D2VidTst.exe in the installation directory.

Try starting in compatability mode, no clue if it will do anything good but i always give it a try with older games
