MF with Necro

Alright , so basically the situation I have here is that I am just returning from being away for a year . I've been playing quite a long time and have decided as of recently to become a necromancer purist , the articles I've found on here have been absolutely amazing , no class is as well read and studied then the necromancer , sadly (or not) , underplayed . I enjoy this unique class , and the struggles and challenges it presents , I just have a few questions . 1. What is the optimum MFing build , Bone/Sum/Poi ? And which one of these builds would prove most effective for Mephy runs ? I want to rebuild my Diablo II empire (and I have to from the ground up) and I want to do it using only a necro , so invariably I'll have to MF with a Necro (Or at least I'd like to) , so I was wondering if anyone could give me some words of wisdom . Also , if anyone has any necro starter equipment , anything will do , I'd be more than grateful .

First Post on Necro Forum , Hope to become a valued member of the community sometime : ) .

Drakey (If you'd like to donate any items to me , just give me a meeting time via email , [email protected] , like I said anything would be appreciated. SC/L/East)

The best Necro for mfing is the Summoner...you can load up om mf and even with lousy resists in hell will do do good. Mine has your typical: Skeletons and Mages maxxed(along with Mastery of course)...I added 3-4 into revive(though 1 point is normally enough) so that I can have 10 of them.

I have 434 mf with my normal weapon and gear(I use a beast) and 714 on switch to mf weapon and shield.

"Words of wisdom": if you want to tele to mephisto and blizzard him away, play a sorceress. With that in mind, any necromancer class is "good". My only successful necros so far as Skelemancers, so I can't compare the builds.

If you have the gear to "zig-zag" through all the monsters instead of killing them, a bonemancer/poisonmancer is better --- you minions WILL usually disappear when you do that, and you don't want to be cornered without offensive spells while your minions are god-knows-where.
However, I BELIEVE it's difficult to get gear that has the defensive capabilities to ignore the monsters and at the same time provides enough killing power.

If you played 1.09 before, beware: hell isn't exactly a kindergarten playground anymore (hm... I just noticed I don't remember whether the spelling was adapted to kindergarden or left at the german kindergarten... but you get the idea, I hope).

One other thing to keep in mind is the difference in MF philosophy between Sorc MFing and Summon MFing. A Sorc can teleport right to the boss, kill him and start a new game.

If you play a Skellemancer you have better ability to do full areas (Ancient Tunnels, Pit, WSK all levels). If you just want to run to the boss for their drop, make a sorc. But you can get more lvl 85 areas with an army.

Suggested Methods/Places

Just as the title says . Where should I M.F. with a summoner , and any other suggested advice ? I've only ever done the Tele/Meph M.F. runs , and need to know the ropes of MFing with Necro .

The Pits, in Tamoe Highlands (the zone after Black Marsh and before Outer Cloister) is a good place. So is the Mausoleum, which is a dungeon in the Rogue Cemetery. WSK is also a good place. Although if you asked anybody here, they would say Pits is best because it's easier than other places and has better chances of dropping things.

Eldritch/Shenk are two good mobs to run also. Pindle is worth some time too... You will probably be raising your army there anyway, might as well run him while you're at it.

Just to add to what has been previously stated about mfing areas, I think act 4 altogther a great place for summon necros to reak havok. Obviously Diablo is a added bonus but as others can tell you with all the numbers and stats, act 4 monsters have a high lvl (85 maybe but don't anyone quote that). MF and lvling possibilities galore. Have fun and enjoy :howdy: .

If you are looking at area levels, A3 has a few alvl 79 areas, but most are 80 and higher. Durance, in particular, is alvl 83.

A4 and A5 have no areas lower than 80.

This doesn't mean there aren't any high level areas in A1 and A2; I'm just looking at ALL areas in an act here.

Also, don't forget that a lot of great stuff can drop in lower level areas as well --- things like the pit are highly overhyped, giving the impression that every single good item in the game is qlvl 85 or higher.

If you look at popular act bosses, it also looks good:
- River of Flame and Chaos Sanctuary are both alvl 85, the highest (except Arreat Summit, which doesn't have monsters) in the game
- Worldstone Keep (all) and Throneroom are alvl 85 as well
- Durance I've already mentioned as being alvl 83

This leaves Andariel has the only popular act boss that doesn't sit at the end of an alvl 80+ area --- Catacombs 2-4 are alvl 73, IIRC.

Note that every monster in hell can drop every set item, IF it can drop the base item (this simple rule doesn't work for uniques, just sets). In particular, this means that the highly sought-after Tal Rasha Amulet can be dropped by EVERY monster in hell, including A1 bloodmoor fallen (since everyone can drop amulets).
Also, if you are looking for a particular set item, check which base item it is built on --- if you see the base item drop somewhere, the set item can drop there as well.

Also, every grand charm in hell has the potential to be a skiller --- don't leave them unidentified just because some stupid fallen creep dropped it.
