Mf sorc questions for a numbskull.

I'v returned after about a 6 month break. I'm looking to start a mf lad sorc to find the items I do not have yet. I have looked through many of the guides and am hoping for a bit of help here.

If the perfect mf sorc build guide already exists, just let me know where. I have looked through a few of them and am unsure of them as its a new patch and I don't want to have to redue my sorc after I start her.

Or if folks could give me a break down of the correct build right here in this thread, I would appreciate it. I need attribute distributation. (so far I'v seen the orb/metorb build with stats of 85/base/200/100. Is there a better build for stats? I do not have any gear to build around.

I also need skills and point allocation, what merc to use and what gear to give the merc to kill immunes and survive hell. Also a list of easy to get gear, and elite gear would be nice, all rigged for mfing hell bosses.

This is the first time I'm using a sorc, Normally I use a hammerdin for mfing but I'v got 3 on non lad and I'm sick of getting enigma, hoto and hoz, Which normally take me way too long and then leave me little time to build other runics. Plus the teleport skill sounds wonderfully useful and I'd like to try a sorc.

Thank you for any and all replies.

Re: Mf sorc questions for a numbskull.

there are a bunch of good MF sork threads stickied in the Knowledge Library at the top of the forum.

how about you go and look at them, then come back and ask SPECIFIC questions about them? (most of the obvious questions will have been answered in the guide threads themselves)

use your search-fu.

Re: Mf sorc questions for a numbskull.

you have so many questions only a guide can answer. since patch 1.10 the game is the same and thats 4 years iirc so dont worry about this. perfect mf sorc doesnt exist. blizzard sorc might be the best but still not perfect.

both guides to blizzard sorc of catch and lorax are good.

Re: Mf sorc questions for a numbskull.

I'm going with the metorb build, but not sure how closely I am going to follow the guide. Can anyone improve apon the stats and skill allocation of that build?

I'm going 1 warmth, 10 fireball, 20 meteor, not sure on the other skills yet. Really unclear on how many to put into fmastery and cmastery. The guide is ok but the stat and skill distribution makes me nervous. I'm sure it could be improved apon, plus it was written a long time ago.

for exsample, do i really need to put 17 into cmastery to pump up orb? someone said 7 only and I'v heard other people say even less. Also how many for fire mastery? 20? 10? its the details that make the difference in the high end areas with low end items (not gonna have runics for a long time)

I'm not going blizzard because I heard its a big pain in the butt to aim with and I plan on doing many, many count runs on top of meph, nil, baal, diablo and andy.

Another thing that bugs me is in the guide it says to leave dex as is, which makes it harder to block a lot if I decide to use a shield. my current stat goal is 85str, dex (undecided), vita 150(atleast) energy( undecided)
I need to find a good balance for gear requirements, casting costs and taking hits. I don't like the 85 str, but without a torch and anni I can't really avoid it. I don't have any gear and am starting fresh so I need to sink the points.

If anyone with a metorb build can offer a better suggestion on where points should go for max effect in hell, I would appreciate it. I got the gear and merc issues handled. Also I do not have a torch or anni, so that should be considered.

Thanks.

Re: Mf sorc questions for a numbskull.

Skills:
Cold Mastery: level17 should be the final result with +skills from equipment. So if you have +3 cold skills, you'll want to spend 14 points into it. If you have +12 skills, then only 5 "hard" points should go into it, etc. If you don't know what your final equipment will be, then you simply can't determine the "optimum" amount yet.

Fireball: 20 points. This is your main skill, not Meteor.

Firebolt will (generally) return more damage than FireMastery.

FYI, Blizzard is not hard to aim at all. Except maybe in PvP. :p

Stats:
First, you should decide if you want to go for max-block or no-block (or something in between) beforehand.

This determines how much you invest in dexterity. The guide mentioning no-dexterity means that the author doesn't recommend using your shield for active-defense (i.e. blocking). Some others recommend blocking. There is no right or wrong choice, and personal preference is as important as anything else on "what's best". My own preference is for at least 700 life (preferrably 800 or 1000+) first & foremost. Depending on the equipment I have available, sometimes that will mean I can still have a blocking shield, and other times it will mean I go with no-block... but 700 life is still a "minimum" for me.

FYI, if you decide you want blocking, you will definitely want a shield with a good base-blocking % (atleast 60%, in my opinion). Don't even bother with any shield below that with a max-block sorc - trust me. A "proper" blocking shield will require you to spend somewhere between 100 and 200 dexterity at end-game, depending on the shield, character level, and your other equipment.

Energy: Points here take away from your life at the end of the game, so you don't want to go overboard and leave yourself with too small of a life-pool later. But, a few points here early will help you get through the game more easily, and in won't "break" your sorc as long as you don't spend too many in Energy. You start with 35 Energy, and I would recommend spending anywheres from 0-40 additional points, but not more for a Meteorb.

Strength: As always... you want enough to wear your equipment. For many sorcs that is ~80-100 points (with equipment), but the common exception are sorcs that use a Spirit shield. This shield requires 156 strength to equip, so it can suck up quite a few stat points (but the shield has some awesome stats for most sorcs, so it's popular for a reason). FYI, if you do decide to use a Spirit, DO NOT attempt to get max-block - you'd most likely fail (miserably) in that attempt.

Vitality: Every point you can spare from the others.

Re: Mf sorc questions for a numbskull.

Cool thanks. I have orb at 16, meteor at 20, fireball at 10, cold mastery at 4. fire mastery at 1. So I will sink 10 more into fireball, and whatever I can leftoever into cold mastery and firebolt. (I'm at level 61 so I think I can get fball to 20, cold mastery to atleast 10 and sink the rest into firebolt.)

As for stats, I'm at str85, dex50, vita 150 and energy 100. I'm going to raise vita to 200 and then see what I can spare to drop into dex (if I feel I really need it) Charms will help later on when I get them along with gear.

So far I like how this character is shaping up. Very cool for my first sorc. Thanks for all the help.

I was in exactly the same situation as you, and made a blizz sorc. And got so bored with her, that I made a pure light sorc, and never looked back. But then i don't mind running away if i come across light immunes...
Re-made her with max block instead of max vita too, and noticed a huge difference in survivability (but needed to use whitstans/stormshield finally).
