MF Sorc, best build?

I just got my dear necromancer to Pat, at level 85, and now all I'm doing is running Countess and Meph.. Since he's a bone necro, this process is somewhat slow (I do kill Meph in less than a minute from I take the WP, but I'm sure sorc can halve that time..)

So, I've decided to start a Sorceress, with the express purpose of running Countess, Mephisto and Baal, and my question is: Which build would be best here? (and if a link to a guide could be provided, that would be awesome). I play only on Single Player, play solo, and only "twinking" items I have, is what I've been able to find with my necro so far, meaning no über runewords, still no shako (), etc. I've got ~400 uniques and set items, plus some nice rares muled on ATMA, so she won't be going purely on what she can find herself though.

I've only played a sorc once before, waaaay back in 1.09 I think (like 6 years ago or so..) so I'm not really into any of the "new" builds. Back then, I was pure Cold.. Would love to try lightning, if that is viable for my purpose, but any advice is welcome.

Lightning / ChainLightning with a Frozen Orb backup is a very versatile, safe, and effective build. You'll be a little slow against act bosses (not horrible, just not great), but everywhere else you'll kick butt - especially in Countess runs.

The biggest problem with this build is that it's a mana-hog. Most builds don't recommend any points in Energy, but 20-40 points will help you early on (and throughout the game) without breaking your build later. Also, to help with mana, I'd start as a lightning sorc and build ChainLightning in later. Frozen Orb is a rockstar through Nightmare difficulty though, and can easily be your first "serious" skill.

Thanks a lot. I will definitely look into that build. Lightning sounds really fun to play, and I've never tried it before, despite having played D2 ever since release

A common Tal Rasha sorc Fireball/Orb is also reccomended for a mf-sorc.
