Will Magic Find work on Barrels, Chests, or other non Monsters that drop items as stated at AS

MF works on everything "in the field" (monsters, chests, ...), and on nothing in town (shops, gambling, ...).

AFAIK MF works for normal chests, skeletons, jars etc. but it doesn't have any influence on special chests as the sparkly chests in some areas (as Pit,Caves, dungeons). I think it doesn't work also for the three "super" chests in LK and chests in the ends of Arcane Sanctuary.

MF doesn’t work on Special Chests and Sparkling Chests. You may distinguish them from normal ones by great amount of items they may drop in full game.

Special Chests are normal looking ones. For example go back to Blood Moor from Cold Plains WP. Frequently you may found a house with a chest near the exit from the Moor. It is Special Chest.
Special Chests have fixed chances for item qualities. 5% of their drops are rare items, 95% — magic. So it is impossible to find unique/set/high quality/low quality items from them. MF isn’t working.

Sparkling Chests looks sparklingly. :) However IFAIK not all shiny chests are “Sparkling†for some unknown reason. For example Mausoleum/The Pit/Ancient Tunnels shiny chests are Sparkling.
Sparkling Chests have fixed chances too:
2% — unique
4% — set
6% — rare
**% — magic

Also these chances are for whole chest drop, so if the game decides to drop unique items, all items in the chest will be unique. In most cases it will be just one item, though.

MF works normally for all other “Objects†— “Normal†chests, rocks, corpses, etc.

I'm also under the impression that GF works only partially on superchests. For example, if my sorc (who wears a lot of +GF items like Wealth, Ali Baba, Goldwrap when opening chests) opens the superchest in the Ancient Tunnels, there are heaps with thousands of gold each (affected by GF) together with rather small heaps of perhaps 300 gold (not affected)which is far less than gold from monsters whose level isn't that much out of sync as in that area. In addition, superchests seem to produce a lot of healing/mana potions which are worse than greater healing/mana potions.

GF basically works for all sources, including special chests and such. The GF is applied at the very end of the item creation. For gold, which is really an "item" the GF is applied at the very, very end, increasing the ammount.

However, there is a rather obscure bug, introduced in 1.10 (or I think it could actually exist since a few versions earlier) so that the GF is not applied to a gold pile that is created as the 6th and last item from a singel TC drop (6 items it the max from a single run through a TC, if you ever see more than 6 items, it is actually multiple drops from a TC). I told Peter Hu about it back just after the 1.10 patch, but no idea if that information was transfered to tne new patch team, or if it was, if it was something they even bothered about.

During my key runs for Act 2 Acrance, 3 of the 4 ends of the paths are with "special chests", or at least I think they are because they drop not less than 15 items when in a game with 4 or more players. Quite sometimes they will even drop 5 or 6 rare items. However, I have never encountered unique or set drops from them. The same also applies to me for the famous chest behind Mephisto.

My question is: Given the 2%/4% drop ratio which are pretty high, I wonder if some of those special chests are, by default, unable to give uniques or sets?

I have played this game for 5 years and I opened those chests for countless times, so I think my experience should be able to demonstrate a reasonable indication, unless I am extremely unlucky.

Could some expert player answer my question?

They are special chests as Warrior of Light described in this thread. They drop 95% magic, 5% rare.
